Can I get some comments, criticisms, suggestions, etc on this image please? I took it with manual focus, would like to know how to avoid the blurring of the front petal.

Post processing was limited to resizing and unsharp mask twice, first at 50% and then at 30%.

Thanks!

You did not mention your settings but it looks like shallow DOF. Blurring out of the front petal could be reduced, methinks, by increasing your DOF. This can be accomplished by closing down your aperture and decreasing shutter speed. The smaller the aperture, the deeper DOF. I dont think you want to decrease your aperture TOO much here as the grass in the background being in focus too would distract.

The photo itself would have been super but for that and the fact that I would either half the dead space on the right or center the flower.

Thanks, my aperture was 1:3.6 and my shutter speed was 1/800 sec.

So in this case you'd recommend cropping out some of the left?

May I please have some more comments/suggestions/critiques?

Taken with my new camera at different times of day.

Different flower - of course.

The same post processing treatment applied to each.

By the way, I think your new camera is working out well for you! I like the first one the best of these.

Thanks Melethia, I am trying to bring my technicals up on it before I get seriously creative, is this a bit better with the cropping?
