Finally I'm trying to have something more decent, I own a Nikon coolpix 775 and I want something better. I've been thinking about a Canon EOS rebel XTi. Any sugestion about the camera or where to get the best deal?

Basically I'm looking for something in the range of $1000

I love my XTi. I bought mine at a local camera store. I probably spent more money but didn't have to wait or worry about shipping damages. If you really want to buy it online I recommend B&H.

Whats your price range?

Just like skylercall loves his XTi and all the Nikonians love their cameras, I love my Pentax. The DSLR market is so competative right now that there really is no bad choice. What matters most is what camera feels right to you. Go to a camera store and play with all the different cameras, each has a different feel, viewfinder, controls, etc. Whichever one you feel most comfortable with is the one you should get.

Theres plenty of advice and opinions throughout this forum. Also, if you havent already, check out dpreview.com. Its the most comprehensive digital photography hardware guide available.

I have to agree with option about checking out the options...of course I'm sure you have already done a ton of research but you don't want to get something then turn around and hate it.
I went to dpreview just for kicks and compared my camera with the pentax and the rebel (see here) and the pentax actually came out on top with oly close behind...BUT Olympus just announced their new Evolt 510 and it is supposed to be a very nice camera.
Some say Olympus doesn't offer the lenses but there are a lot of manufactures now making 4/3 lens and helping to reduce the cost too.

Good luck on your hunt, I did mine for a long time before I settled on the Evolt 500 and I'm glad I don't have to do that again for a long time. :)

it really does come down to what feels good in your hands and suits your skill level + budget.

D40, D40x and D50 are great entry level cameras. i don't know much about canon, but the rebel series seem like great cameras also.

you really need to get a camera in your hands and test drive it! :)

I have read reviews of the D40 v the rebel xt and the D50 v the rebel and both the nikons came out better, plus the fact that the nikon's are better value for money. I would look at the latest offering from Pentax - K10 or K100 or the Samsung equivalents (as they are basically a Pentax with some features left out). Also dont forget the Olympus line up. The Nikon D40 is supposed to be ideal for a beginner on the dslr path.

Do what I did: play with all the cameras in your price range that have the features you want and get the one that feels best in your hands.

If you're willing to sacrifice the 2MP and the dust removal feature, you can still get a new Canon Rebel XT (350D) from newegg.com for about $600 (body only). I went with this one over the XTi because I couldn't justify spending $200 more for essentially those two features.
