On Tuesday evening, JerseyGenie, JimyThing, and I met for the first time. JerseyGenie lives about 5 hours away in New Jersey, but was here in Washington, DC for a business trip. JimyThing and I live here.
We intended to shoot DC landmarks that night, but JerseyGenie fell and broke her leg. She's been in the hospital since. The earliest she can go home is Monday, and she's months away from being back to normal.
One surgery simply stabilized her leg, and she'll need at least one more and maybe two to repair the breaks.
I posted a shot for the Where You Live project from that night that showed her ambulance near the Iwo Jima memorial, and folks from that project and from Team Suck have been leaving comments.
I thought I'd throw it open more broadly and invite anyone interested to leave her a message.
So - if you're so inspired, please leave a comment on this shot:
I'll print it out and take it to her tomorrow or Sunday; she doesn't have a computer in the hospital.
Thanks!

Bump - I hope to go over and see Jeanne later today. So if you want to leave her a message, do so as a comment on the picture I showed above. I'm going to print it and the comments.
Also, if you're feeling especially generous, I'm collecting money via paypal for flowers. I know that sounds a little dicey, and I'm just a random guy on the Internet, but I promise every dime anyone sends will go to flowers.
If you want to send anything, my email address is jeffrey at cliffclimber dot com.
Thanks again. DPC is truly an incredible community!

Hi everyone.
You know what? You can buy a whole lot of stuff for the money donated by:

I also took her the image of the Iwo Jima Memorial, where she fell, plus the messages people left for her there. Forty people sent get-well wishes!
As you might imagine, it all made Jeanne very, very happy.
Here are some snapshots from my visit with Jeanne today.

Hi everyone. Here's an update on JerseyGenie, who I just spoke to on the phone.
She ended up staying in the hospital here until last Monday - that was 2 weeks here. Her insurance finally came through and paid for an ambulance, which is a relief. They took her to a rehab center about 10 miles from home.
Yesterday she had what they hope will be her last surgery. They removed the contraption that had stabilized her leg and put in pins, screws, and assorted hardware. Turns out she'd broken it in at least 10 pieces!
She hopes to be back at the rehab center on Monday or Tuesday, where she'll spend a couple of weeks before finally getting to go home. Then it'll be at least 2 months without standing or walking.
She and her husband Tom weren't sure about returning to work. They have to see how it goes in rehab, especially whether she can get into a wheelchair on her own.
I'll let you all know when I next hear from them.
To remind you, here are a couple of the shots I took of her in the hospital a couple of weeks ago:
