Unfortunately there is a misconception about the word speed and the average person can not think outside the box. That is unfortunate for the good photographer. People have a problem letting there imaginations run when they see a picture. They try to make sense out of it. What does it take to be a good judge. I think the truth lies in the word time. I understand that people fly through the photographs and never give most of them a second glance and that is unfortunate. They are missing the whole idea of this website. So if you think about it. Speed in a photograph can not really be explained. A photograph is still. So truly there is no way to describe speed in a photograph.
There is no way to tell something is going really fast or really slow. So what are we left with? We are left with voters whos underactive imaginations allow for their percection to skew.

That is just an afterthought.

A good photographer isn̢۪t less of a good photographer because a simple mind can't comprehend what his point was. A good photo however is one that the simple minded person understands as well as the seasoned pro.

A great photographer is someone who can pull them all together.

Damn, I should put that in a cookie.

What's up mate? Low scoring?

Personally I think the image I've posted for the 'B' challenge is much better than the one in 'Speed' but voting says otherwise at present. Nothing as fickle as the voters.

how can people let their imaginations run and yet have underactive imaginations at the same time?

I have gone through a lot of the pictures - many/most of them met the challenge which was to "Convey the illusion or feeling of speed" but if I did not get a sense or feeling of speed from the picture that is the (imo) failing of the photographer to convey it in the image and I marked it down.

I'm probably not as open minded about this challenge as I could be....

"Convey the illusion or feeling of speed."

That's the challenge description. In my dumass countryboy mind, 'speed' means fast.

I see a lot of photos that have motion blur that don't convey a feeling of speed to me. I also see a lot of photos with no motion blur that do convey a good feeling of speed.

Motion blur doesn't always say 'speed'. Stopped motion sometimes says 'speed' :)

Watch, I will LMAO if we find a bug on a flower picture for the Night on the town challenge. I can think out of the box as much if not more then the next guy but I don̢۪t want to have to force my imagination to see something in an image that wasn̢۪t really there or intended to begin with. And yes I can see the bugs town would be a flower garden but come on now. This in no way was ment to disrespect the macro bug photographers. I love those shots and will be doing them as well when I get my macro lens so dont get miffed at my comment pls.
