both has seen technological advancement since the old days. similarities?
1. i think an audiophile would see us mp3-totting people the same way a die-hard photographer sees someone shooting in JPEG.
2. or someone using earphones with someone using tuned speakers (like, dSLR vs point and shoot cameras)
3. or maybe, between CDs to compressed mp3 formats (again like, L-lenses compared to normal lenses)
slow morning...

Heh, dunno about that. I used to be partners in a store that regularly sold two channel systems that went for 100k+. That's a lot of L lenses. ;) |

i just think, maybe we're sometimes being a little more nit-picky about things than we should - especially trivial little things... |

Don't hang out in audiophile circles do you Cindi?
Audiophiles are *the* most over-the-top spenders, and audiophile accessories and components are a world of snake oil, smoke and mirrors. How about a treatment for CD and DVD surfaces that's supposed to make them sound better... it's colorless, odorless, tasteless... and only costs $40 for a 2cc vial. That's right, 2cc, $40. It's very likely water with a small mount of some cheap surfactant. It exists.
Audiophiles will believe almost anything if you put enough discussion of quantum physics in the marketing materials.
How about outlets (yes, the place where you plug it in) for $279 each? Yup, they exist.
It gets worse than the two examples above. Photographers are a very down-to-earth bunch compared to audiophiles. |

Well I did know a guy one time that did audio systems for cars - competition systems with surround sound and vibration seats and LCD screens, etc... they were outrageous! At the same time, I'v seen photographers with stupid amounts of money spend on equally elaborate things - custom studios and crazy props. We're all insane! ;) |

I guess I don't hang out in pro photog circles enough, LOL. It's true, whatever vice hobby people get into, it will get taken to an insane level by some. |

Absolutely. I remember one of my last customers... for the life of me I couldn't convince he'd be better off upgrading a $1500 pr. of speakers rather than spend $2500 on a pr of solid silver speaker cables. I swear, advertising could change the laws of physics in that industry. I had to get out of it. |

Audiophiles, we all agree can go over the top. But on our own site, what about the lengths that people like Scalvert go to to create images? Many would call that obsessive and OTT. He probably doesn't spend a similar amount of money on props and equipment but still... These guys are addicts for more ribbons, let's face it, but we all still love their images.
Edited typos.

Audiophiles ... passive observers, feeding on others creations
Photographers ... create/invent/produce

Those are the best examples I've ever seen of audiophile pseudo-science bull-sh*t. Read the description of the wooden knob. Hilarious! |

What's more, on the machine it's designed for, you need two of them! |

A friend of mine demolished one wall of his house, got concrete stands built and speakers delivered by crane, then the wall rebuilt. The speakers were about $50k each |
