I JUST missed street.

I have love, tree, acronym, and free study in. Im working on ICE today.
My hard drives are full so I have to do some shuffling to get them off the camera! LOL

Sorry to say, Love, Tree, and acronym are not doing very well. ;(

I was happy with my tree entry until I saw some of the others lol. Currently at 5.22. And my poor little acronym is just misunderstood. I have 71 votes and 136 views so I am guessing a lot of people don't know what it is. Which I expected. It's currently at 5.36.

Oh and John - if I enter the Tuesday challenge I have to get it done tomorrow. It will end next week and I will not be back yet. I hope it is something I can do!

Guess I need to see if I can do the furniture pic!

If you get back on the 10th, you may have 2 days or evenings or not. You may need to unpack and recover.

The Tree and Free Study do not count for WPL, but are great practices. I will eventually have to burn some DVDs for storing photos, they do take up a lot of space.

I am both disappointed and thrilled. My current score is a personal best:
Votes: 80
Views: 121
Avg Vote: 5.6125
Comments: 3
Favorites: 0
Wish Lists: 0

The acronym is a true acronym and I think the photo is pretty good - my 3 comments are very positive too. I hope things go up as the challeng goes on.

I am working on my ice photo tonight and I have some good ideas for furniture.

edit: spelling

You must've not made that right turn somewhere.

I just realized it's the end of the month February is the weird month with an extra "R" in its' name, more letters, but less days in it. I will submit something for the Free Study Marathon I joined, which I missed last month.

I'm getting a lot of Views/Vote 35/53, early on for this Ice-Challenge, but no comments. It is just nice-but-average, no Wows, or Ooohs/Aahs like a fireworks display gets. Started out at 6.000, currently 5.5XXX. I've been saying all along there is more ice then just the natural occurence of it outdoors. Now I'll see if others shot anything unique.

I sure wish she would've shot the "Ice Pack"/hangover idea, might've been good.

i went to sleep at 5.12, woke up at 5.02, currently am at 5.17. that is a similar pattern to past challenges, which would suggest that i'll improve until about 5pm when the after-work crowd drops me back to about where i am today. then, i slowly increase/stabilize during the week

my ice entry hasn't broken 5. sorry guys. i'm usually better than this!

i entered for the free study too. i really like the shot, but not sure how the peanut gallery will react.

also, i added a few shots to my general portfolio. Some experiments for Low Key that didn't quite apply...

Let me know what you think!

(not sure why these look so dark at work!!! grrrr...)

The berries look interesting/good-photo. After a quick glance, The White lighting on the right makes it less Low-Key to me. Many of the current Low-Key-2 entries have dark-backgrounds, with ony the subject lit, but soft.

I haven't tried Low-Key. It seems to be more difficult in Basic Editing, since you have to have precise control of the lighting. I don't know what the audience likes, I prefer monotone.

Here are the last one's: Low Key - 1 I have mentioned on this forum, I think, about comparing your photo to submit to one of the past top-10, side-by-side, and adjust your colors accordingly, to one that you may want to imitate.

Monitor calibration software is about $600 - $2000, and it only calibrates to match your-printer, a specific repeatable lighting setup in your studio, and/or, the colrs on your camera. They gave me an old-dark, but large, hand-me-down monitor at work, that's why everything is darker for me. They do vary from monitors, PC/MAC/LCD/CRT/LapTop/Brand-Name/Ambient-Light, etc.

Maybe I should have entered this in low key instead of the one I put in Ice!

Tlemetry, yes the brushes look like a potted plant.

We may be 0-3 in our Division, but currently, we beat all other teams with 4.xxxx and 5.xxxx, we're just below the 6.0000 I have to break the 5.9xxx habit quickly.

I will vote, listen to my comentators, and review past top-10, and change my habits. To always have 2-entered, and have 2-3 feasable-possibilities for a challenge, just in case Plan-A gets interrupted by family or weather, or inability to procure the props.

trust me, i'm not spending 50 cents on anything for my work computer. i just think it's interesting since the brightness on my new Mac looks "perfect" every time. it just makes me wonder what all the other evaluators are seeing. there's no way to calibrate for everyone!

FWIW, i have ordered a few prints from DPCPrints and the brightness is close to my Mac.

How about...
"comparing your photo to submit to one of the past top-10,
side-by-side, and adjust your colors accordingly, to one that you may want to imitate".

Then you don't have to calibrate just do a comparison by eying it.
You don't calibrate for everyone, just match up a past winning photo.

I have stated this idea three times, now I'll try it myself.

ADDED: This should work even if your monitor sucks.
Eyes can distinguish huge number of colors/tones side-by-side, may be in the millions.

i see your point. i generally do try this to get the right contrast and intensity. my screen at work probably just sucks.

John - Maybe I'm not understanding. I guess what I'm saying is there's no way for me to tell until I get to work, since I don't have both screens side-by-side. When at home, my images look good and the winning ones look good also. I could just over-brighten for DPC and see how that works.

My Free Study is a disappointing 5 right now. I really thought this was a great shot. But now that I see it at work, it looks too dark again.

grrrrrr....
