I can't wait to get it now! I did some researching and it seemed to be the best camera for my budget. Now I'm gonna have to learn how to use it! I'm so excited!!

I hope it's as good as the olympus film cameras. I have a Olympus OM-10 that I bought about 26 yrs. ago that still takes great pictures.

congratulations, I truly believe they are greatly underrated. What lenses did you get with it?

Good luck and welcome back to the Oly world lol.

Thanks! It comes with a Zuiko 14-45mm f/3.5-5.6 zoom lens. It's gonna be a long wait for that UPS man!

Do you know if lenses from Olympus film cameras fit this? Just wondering.

If it's not too late, you might want to hold off on buying an Oly until next week when a new model(s) is released.

Too late! But I got a really good deal on this.

The only thing I regret with buying my Olympus is the fact that I can't afford the lens I really really want lol. I could really use that 300mm telephoto but alas it is over $5,000.

I've had mine for over a year and a half now and I do love it and I agree that it's underrated.

Like you I was on a limited budget and it has been good to me. I will be upgrading in the next year though.

That's what I figured. I would get this, learn how to use a digital slr, and then maybe upgrade in a few years.

You won't be sorry you did this. I have had a look at the Nikon SLRs and the E-500 is actually a lot more user-friendly in their operation. It is the perfect SLR to learn on. I would like a faster lens than the kit one though and there are not as many 4 thirds lenses available at this stage. But its good features far outstrip the bad!

I am a new owner of this camera too, and I am very pleased with it. I love the dust cleaning option too. Congratulations to you! We ordered our system through Amazon, and had the camera in a few days!

I have had mine for about a year in a half (Nov 05) I still love it! I got mine with the 2 kit lenses. Then got the ZD35mm macro, my 4/3rds lens addiction grew from there:) 14-54mm, 50-200mm, 50mm macro, 1.4TC.. With the 4/3 to OM adaptor you can use the Olympus OM lenses, all manual focus of course, and playing around with the metering. Right now Im saving up for the next E1 replacement, but depending on when that comes out I might splurge on a 11-22mm or maybe a 7-14mm. You'll have a great time with that new camera!

you can get an adapter and use the om lenses on all the four thirds cameras
I have just got an adapter for my E300 that allows me to use the old M42 screw fit lenses. but everything is manual

Congratulations on your new E500. I bought mine May2006 with the 2 kit lenses. I enjoy the camera very much. I am now eyeing a macro lens. All I need now is more time to take photos and mess around with photoshop. Enjoy!

Congrats ... I considered the E-500 since I was coming off an Olympus P&S, but I desperately wanted to get away from the 4:3rds aspect of the P&S so I didn't want to buy a dSLR with that system. (I also wish Olympus would stop using non-standard memory -- I was never able to get a SmartMedia card larger than 128KB.)

I felt that the evolt300 was a great camera with exceptional glass; the only problem that made me switch to Canon was the ISO was unbearable over 800; and the fact that there just weren't many lenses available at that time...we've used Olympus microscopes for years in a laboratory and they are the best microscopes I've ever used...I like Canon but the Olympus cameras are better built.

Olympus stopped using smart media cards a long time ago, probably the last camera to use it was the E-20. They dropped it in favor of the xD card which higher memory capacity than SM which was just limited to 128 megs.

The E-500 has slots for both CF and SD memory cards, so no issues there.

How well does this actually work?

It seems like it works incredibly well to me. I've had my camera for a few months, change zoom lenses frequently, and have never had to clean my sensor. Maybe I've just been lucky but I know someone with a 20D that finds dust on their sensor constantly.

Nothing is more exciting than getting new gear, grats on your purchase, does it come with a ribbon?
