Well it has finally arrived....retirement. Today was my final day in the Air Force after 21 years 7 mos. Time to be a bum for at least 40 days before I have to start looking for a job. With all that free time maybe I can produce a high scoring photo. We shall see.

40 days heh take 6 months... kidding depends on what you have saved up. So what do you specialize in what major areas of training do you have?

I am a network engineer. I have been trained by Cisco and the military to do network infrastructure. I have worked in the base network control center and just finished working in the 3rd Combat Communications Group. We were front line comm, building a base netwok from the ground up. I don't think it will be too hard to find a job.

Don't think you will find one that will be more demanding either :-)

Congrats, thanks and good luck.

Congratulations on your retirement!! Having just retired myself on February 1st after a 20 year career, I know how you are feeling! I'm assuming you're fairly young (under 50?) so you have the rest of your life to do what you want, to enjoy all your endeavours!

Congratulations again, and thank you for your service!

Beth

40 if that is young. Still feel 20 and can run 3 miles without keeling over.

My neighbor's husband retired from the AF a couple of years back and scored a great paying job with ARINC. They have jobs all over the USA and some overseas. They 'prefer' military backgrounds too...and with your background in computers as well, I bet you could score one easy....just for down the road when you apply :)

Thanks for what you were willing to give for the rest of us Americans. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement.

I have been offered a job back on base in the Network Control Center as a network manager. Before I moved to my last job, I was in charge of that department so I know all the guys and what the job entails. It is a civil service job with a good salary so I will probably take the job and double dip on government retirement. God knows my photography will not pay the bills, YET.

My father worked for a company that competes with ARINC for contracts IITRI which they have offices accross the street from each other in anapolis. Both very good companys i think hes moved onto IBM now. He was in the Army till i was born.

If you have a decent security clearence companys like ARINC and IITRI do hire and pay well.

James - Welcome to the world of Military Retirement! Proudly retired since Jan 1993. Working on the outside can be fun and many employers seek people with many years of military service due to work ethics.

Congrats brother and welcome to the ranks of the working! :-)

I've been unemployed for 8 months and that's yet to happen (though I could teach a class on procrastination).

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR RETIREMENT :-)

Congrats, and thanks for serving! I'm taking an early retirement from Ford on Wednesday. Just barely qualified by turning 50 in December, so now I have to go out and find another job.

On Thursday the local park is hosting lessons on Woodpecker photography, so I think I'll postpone the job hunt for at least one day.

Hey, congrats! My dad put in 20 years in the AF, and a good friend just retired with 30. He is now happily fixing up the house and surfing the internet while his wife has a "real" job for the first time in almost 30 years and loves it. Transitions can be great things :-)

Oh I will....I think that after I wake up in the morning I will get some breakfast and then take a nap. We will see where the day goes from there. :) My daughter goes in on April 3rd as a medical lab tech so the legacy continues.
