OK, so I'm getting closer to convincing myself that I really should trade my *ist DL on the Pentax K10D. However, now I've just noticed that for a few $ less than the K10D I can buy it's 'clone', the Samsung GX10. The $ are no big deal, but the attractive part of the Samsung is that it comes with a 5 year warranty. Whilst the GX10 accepts Pentax lenses it comes fitted with a SCHNEIDER D-XENON 18-55 3.5-5.6 kit lens. I know nothing about these lenses. Anybody out there able to let me know if this is as good as the similarly spec'd Sigma that is the kit lens on the Pentax?

Cheers,

Qiki.

That Schneider lens is a rebadged Pentax lens. Identical in every way even down to the SMC lens coatings used.

Yes its better than the Sigma but keep in mind that its still a cheap consumer zoom.

Thanks Bazz. The K10D is also available with a Pentax 16-45 f/4.0 as a kit lens. This is what I had been looking at, but the package is about AUD400 more than the Samsung/Schneider and only comes with a 1 year warranty. What to do? Hmmmmm.....

The 16-45mm is a far, far better lens than the 18-55mm..

I'm lost on one point though.. who offers a Sigma lens as a kit lens on a pentax camera?

Um, heaps of places. Even my *ist DL was available with a choice of 2 packages, both with Sigma lenses.

oohhh.. now that you say that, I do seem to recall a few places offering a "2 lens" package that were Sigmas.. and Ritz offering their versions.. whatever they are called.

Ok. Sorry.. I was just lost there for a moment. hehe.

I know what you're saying tho. I've never quite understood how it can be cost effective for a manufacturer to offer another company's lenses when they make something of similar spec/quality themselves.

ps. When are you getting your K10D Glen?? :)

Ah, scrub that last question. I see from your profile page that you already have. Did you buy yours a body only or pick it up with a kit lens?

Its a local problem we have here in Australia.

Unfortunately for us Aussies the sole distributor of Pentax is also the sole distributor for Sigma and they prefer to bundle Sigma lenses rather than import Pentax lenses.

I don't actually own it yet, but have access to one just about whenever I want.
