I'm purely speculating but... *if* it's real and *if* it's a PMA announcement, then I'd expect availability soon after, perhaps April or latest May.

heres hoping, that is about when I'll be in the market for a new lens...

This site also lists the lens, though no picture. Must be real...

I will think seriously about it if it is ultra-sharp along the lines of the 70-200s. I won't be at the front of the buying line though. Maybe Canon will include it in the Fall rebates.

I just wish it were a 2.8 lens... that would be the one thing that would push me over the edge.

The thing is, Canon's focusing system works best with 2.8 (or faster) lenses. So I'd love to throw a 100-400 lens on the camera for shooting sports. But I'd love it even more if it could be a 2.8 lens to help ensure fast/accurate focusing. (just a note: you don't have to shoot wide open to gain the benefit of wide open apertures for focusing)

Yeah, but you're getting a 70-200 f/4L IS, 300 f/4L IS, and 400 f/4L IS -- plus everything in between. (As long as its optical quality is up to par).

So would they have announced this with the ID mark III?

Surely they couldnt let all of their good stuff out at one time and leave no surprises for the rest of the time? I think what they announced was just a teaser with more to come.

Yea, they have to have something in reserve to trump Sony's (or anyone else's) press release. :-)

I was out of town this weekend. I assume the convention came and went without an announcement for this lens. Hoax?

PMA doesn't start until March 8th.

Nikons version, the 200-400 f4 VR, is very highly rated but at a cost of over $5k US. I would expect Canon to compete very well so it should be an awesome lens. Now if Nikon could just get off the dime and produce a 500mm F4 with VR we may finally catch Canon in the IS department.

Good luck to those interested.
