I think this may be the last time I see my score with a 6 before the dot on this entry |
I was right about saying goodbye to the 6.

Being in a WPL is good and bad. It's good as it pushes me to enter where I may not otherwise, but bad in that sometimes the results don't score so well :( |

Heh, you & I both, friend. At least we can share the misery. Actually, I think we might be on the road to a win this round (though this cahllenge os for the next round.)

Geeze, I am thrilled with holding on to a 5 and hoping it doesn't slip into a 4...while hitting that damn button all the time! I bet my head will explode if I ever get a 6.

I just voted this challenge. I find it fascinating what a huge per4centage of the entries are in the general category of despair-loneliness-hopelessness-dark-moody etc etc. This is by no means true of all classic street photography; Cartier-Bresson, for example, was a pretty upbeat viewer-of-life... It seems like at least half of DPCers see "street" as synonymous with "poverty" and 'decay" and "old age".

I don't at all . . .buttttt. . .if there's nothing interesting or even slightly photogenic going on in the streets, I think the haunting characters you see on the street sometimes touch a photojournalistic emotion in me that makes me want to photograph that part of life. And it makes a much more interesting photo than just a bunch of people walking from place to place on the street. I looked and looked and tried for what seemed like an eternity to find a fun, interesting, festive type of street photo with a story to tell. . .but alas, I resorted to a more haunting side of life too.

Ya right...but they are probably the ones with the higher scores. Mine is definitely not sad...and whilst it started great and continued to rise...it has now tanked to the point I am considering self DQ.

Mine too, has nothing to do with sadness, poverty and so on: it's a "pretty" image, and it is just not what the voters are looking for obviously.... Sinking steadily from 5.8, to 5.7 to 5.3 now.... Don't think it deserves this score but must trust the voters' opinions...

the classic photographers also had allot more time to take the type of shots they wanted. one week is sometimes not enough time to find the right shots. the images of the darker side of life are far more prevalent in my world (when excluding children which I don't feel comfortable photographing other peoples)so you shoot what you can in the time given. we live in a very small town of about 12,000 so there really aren't people out in the streets. everyone drives and there are no hang out places. the day before the challenge started we were in Tampa and we got some great shots of all kinds of people that were happy.
