A diversion from the "where I live" project.
If you live in the north country , it's essential to get away to somewhere warm & beautiful in the winter...for your sanity ! I'm bringing my camera too.... |

Day 17 - Norwich Castle
Another shot from yesterday (have quite a few decent ones from yesterday's shoot, so I'll probably be using them for a few days to show you some of the interesting stuff around here).

It snowed today so made another trip back out to the barn.
Adding this just for fun ... I did way too much processing on this but it's kind of cool looking.

Day 17
Elmira, NY
The dog playing in the snow again. I broke out the old mirror lens today. It's amazing how much you get to rely on the AF. Took a while to adjust back to the MF, especially at f/8.

Day 16 - Treasure Island and St. Pete Beach, Florida.
This challenge finally gave me the motivation to get down to the beach and take pics of the outside of these three hotels that I have wanted to photograph for a long time.
The first two - the Thunderbird and the Bilmar - remind me of what the beach here probably looked like in its heyday in the 50's and 60's. I have been inside the Bilmar and it is very fancy and kind of art deco. I have not been inside the Thunderbird yet.
And this one is unmistakeable to anyone who lives in the area. The magnificent Don Cesar - now part of the Loews Hotel chain. This is one of the most opulent hotels in all of Florida. It is also a landmark to people sailing in the area as this giant pink hotel can be seen for miles. There are details in the picture description of the history of this amazing hotel.

Day 17 Springfield, Mo
This is the Convention Center in downtown. Its not much of a photo, but its where i spent the day. Each year we have a chili cookoff to raise money for the boys and girls club. So lots of business's brew up a batch of chili and enter in the cookoff. Each team picks a theme and builds props and costumes and serves up there favorate chili. We have chili team where i work so i have to go and enjoy. As you can guess you give a bunch of rednecks an excuse to get together in the middle of winter and eat chili and drink beer they show up in masses. Sometimes the crowd is as colorful as the chili teams.
This my companys booth, we served dragon slayer chili this year. I will try and post a link to a page with some shot i took later. It was blast.

Day 17 - St Pete Beach, Florida
One of the numerous and easy to find tourist shell shops located around the state. This one is in St. Pete Beach.

I pass this little pond every day (M-F) on my way to and from work. It's usually filled with Canadian Geese and looks so pretty with the fountain and the geese all around. Except for the day I stopped to shoot it, then the geese were missing.

Right across the street from work is a pretty little cemetary. When the weather cooperates (and when my hip cooperates) we get our lunch time exercise by walking up and down the rows. In the very center is this private little chapel.

I'm sorry, I missed a few days. I just posted enough to catch me up. And now I have to go out and shoot some tomorrow to cover the next few days. I will be out of town and unavailable for posting.
This is a shot from a few days ago. The Delaware River, which separates NJ from PA. I think it is at its prettiest (and the most dramatic) in the winter with the snow and ice.

Not much going on today except work. A little community covered dish dinner tonight. About 100 people attended, of the 450 or so who live at Felda.
