Please delay the 'speed' challenge by a couple of week as I'll be going to the 'Goodwood Festival of Speed' on the 12th July!

If you smoked less pot, you might not misspell festival :)

Okay, maybe you haven't smoked as much as I thought, I see you no longer have it as festiwal ;)

Time for a re-think as that was my initial thought as well!

Well I think it could be cool if it was done in the right manner..

lol. That was my first thought too.

My question about "speed", is that it doesn't imply fast or slow speed, but I assume that fast speed shots will do better since the slow side of speed might be overlooked by people voting.

Hi Jason, well done on the self-protrait.

The brief is 'convey the illusion or feeling of speed', it says nothing about having to be fast, but I agree that 'slow' photo's will have to be well conceived to overcome peoples initial thought that speed = fast.

Well, I know I am wasting my time, but...... Don't you think if they had meant "Motion" or Movement" or anything of the slower nature they would not have used the word "Speed". I swear, some of you must have given your parents hell trying to grow up.

David, used as a noun speed is rate of movement, which may be anything other than stationary, as a verb it is used to indicate a fast motion. Therefore your premise that 'if they had meant "Motion" or Movement" or anything of the slower nature they would not have used the word "Speed".' is incorrect. ;)

trying to grow up? Please. There is no need to be rude. I know that fast speeds are going to be more accepted, esp. by people like yourself, but I think that slow speeds could also be conveyed interestingly in an image.

Speed is a noun. Speed is motion or movement. How does motion or movement convey slow to you? Speedy is an adjective or adverb that means fast, not speed. Hence, you can shoot with a fast, or as slow, shutter speed. See?

You don't think a time lapse shot for those with sufficient cameras showing something slow moving, like a slug, or even a flower wilting without water, or the stars moving in the night sky, esp. if titled correctly, would convey slow speed?

Convey the feeling of speed...how does speed feel?
Could you speed if you were behind the wheel?
Does speed mean the wind that flies into your hair
or does speed mean a turtle, or does anyone care?
Speed means something not stopped, something moving
now I'm gonna get back to my music and grooving.
Enjoy the challenges, shoot for the fun of the shot
or you'll regret it next week if you get the 5.3 I've got.

I too had bad thoughts on this challenge.
My initial idea was to take a photo with a straw up my nose and the title "Speed kills"
But methinks that would have been a little too controversial :)
