This is my first photo that I took with my camera when I bought it last summer. I used paintshop pro to clean it up a bit.

Wow if it took you this long to clean it up a bit and post it, you better start early for the challenges! :-) jk
I like the colors and how vivid it is. Now where are some recent photos to see how you have progressed since summer.

I have 1000's of photos. I didn't find DPchallenge until about November, but haven't been serious about getting things touched up until I found some friends who have similar interestes.
I'll be taking more photos and hopefully entering some challenges. Thanks for the comments. Is there anything I could to improve the photo, something to watch for for next time? |

For a night image the lighting, perspective and alignment to the tassles is good. Basically, I like the shot.
There is an out of focus object in the upper left corner of the frame that should be cropped out of the composition. It is a distraction and removing it does not change the overall composition whatsoever.
Overall, this image has the technical quality required for a great image.
There is not a specific place within the image to attract viewer attention. Though this is not always needed, I feel it should be in this particular case. You may disagree. My thinking is that alone, no single element in the composition commands the type of attention that most viewers would want.

@stdavidson
Thank you. I'll go back to the location and try to get a few more shots and take another stab at it. |

I find the wires at the top of the lights quite distracting (no fault on your part) which is a shame as the rest of the photo is so crisp and vivid.
If you go back again perhaps see if you can achieve a new perspective so you can't see the wires? Just an idea.
:o)
Man I wish that was my first photo, what a start! |

The first photo I take with any new digital camera tends to be of the room I'm in when I take it out of the box. |

My thought it would be good luck to take a picture of the laterns as the first shot. I've got a ton of latern shots, but that was the best one. My wife refused to pose for the first shot

That's pretty nice stuff. colors complement well and the blacks are very clean.
Where you at there? xs.to is that tokyo? do they have their own domain now?
Just curious as I'm always on the lookout for other DPC'ers in my neck o' the woods. |
