My uncle is a Major in the Canadian military and was just deployed to Afghanistan...he wasn't supposed to be doing any real combat or ground exercises but now he's heading off the base for some sorta stuff I'm not clear on. Anyhoo, it'd be great if you guys could send some good will and prayer his way.
This isn't his first deployment, he's only 36 but he spent a few years in Germany, a year in Bosnia, Honduras and also was in Rwanda for the 1994 genocide. He has a 9 month old boy and a woman who really wants to get married so it'd be great if he came back in August mentally and physically sound!!!!
P.S. the strangest thing is that another soldier with the same name and from the same town in Newfoundland died in a convoy bombing in Afghanistan before Christmas. A little bit crazy! |

The next time you get a chance to correspond with your uncle, please give him my heartfelt thanks for his service!

Good luck to him and I will be hoping for a safe and sane return to Newfoundland.

thanks all...and he tells me via email that they're not 'exercises' but combat missions. He says they only use heavy armoured vehicles to go off the base...he also says that violence against Canadian troops will be picking up in the next 6 months because the weather is warming up and 'the enemy' (as he puts it) can transport their own troops in the back of a regular pick-up truck at night again.

Canada has a military? -jk
My thoughts are with you and your family. Keep him in your prayers. Send him letters and care packages if he's able to get them, those mean A LOT. Don't start thinking crazy thoughts, he'll be back before you know it. Also, spend lot's of time with his wife and that little baby. |

He mailed himself a huge box of toilet paper before he was deployed so I think he's all set! hahahaha
