Occasionally I need to send pretty large files (60 to 100 MB) to magazines for ads and things like that. E-mail can't handle it and I've been using a couple free sites, but they're pretty darn slow. I don't do it super often, so I don't want to pay more than a few bucks a month. Or have it be free if I can get it. Any help here? |

Gmail should be able to handle that............do you have a gmail account?
If not anyone can get one now.

I haven't used it yet, but Winkflash supposedly gives you unlimited space to store your images... for FREE! |

G-Mail can handle the upload but massive downloads can be a problem on the OTHER end too. One designer I work with can't get anything larger than 5 Meg. And it's a bit tough to always tell the other person to get a new e-mail account so you can send them one file ;) |

I do the same thing using sendfile.com, the free option. |

Winkflash doesn't seem to take anything like Illustrator or EPS files :( |

That's what I'm using right now. After an hour and 35 minutes, I'm 85% done. I looked at their paid option, but one file puts me over the transfer limit, so it's not great for me to pay.
Thanks for all the ideas so far!!! I do appreciate them. What I need may be impossible to find ;) |

I was in error when I said sendfile. I've been using yousendit.com
I don't know that it will be any faster, the largest file I've sent is 35 meg. |

Sounds like one of those sayings - Cheap, fast or reliable : pick any two.

if it was me, I'd purchase a domain with ftp/web hosting. I'm using Ipowerweb.com. Their plan for a year I think was $120 or so, but it's really hard to tax their limits. I've transfered very large files and haven't come close to the transfer limit, and their up/down speeds are predictable and decent. If you started going nuts, upgrading to your own dedicated server still isn't an insane amount of $$. Their backend software is quite simple.
This would allow you to precisely control the FTP access to anyone you want, know the parameters of the server, monitor downloads, etc.
You can create a directory for each client, and they would only have access to that directory, so you can precisely control access to files to individual clients.
You would also more precisely control when they can no-longer access the file from you. Can't think of why that's important, but it feels like it might be to someone.

yousendit.com might be just what I'm looking for. I'll give it a try. I don't see anything on their site about throttling the upload. Free is nice too ;)
