No, I don't know anything. I'm wondering why I've not seen one yet! So where is it?

That camera's been out for years. It's definitely a good start of a line, but they never took it to phase 2. I was looking at one a long time ago when they first came out, and the reviews were the sensor was too noisy (virtually the whole crop of 8 MP sensors at that time were panned, except in the Oly).

And of course, now, I'd like to see it with IS.

Canon created a new niche for this product line by taking away all the good prosumer features (e.g., RAW) from the G7. But they aren't delivering! Of course, if they cripple the successor like they did the G7, they might as well not bother.

I am at least somewhat excited about the announcement of the Oly 550, with RAW, IS, and a zoom from 28mm to 504mm zoom, as well as ISO to 3200.

What's wrong with you Canon!?!?

after what Canon did to the latest installment of the G-series, I'm losing faith in them, especially their marketing and decision-making department. The Pro-1 successor? Probably more pixels on the sensor but with slower glass and JPEG only - crap.

EDIT: ok, maybe Canon will throw in their IS stuff into it, and then call it a major upgrade. duh!

I have the same issue with Canon and their dSLR models. Way overdue for the 40D (or whatever the successor to the 20D/30D will be called) 5D is getting a bit long in the tooth as well.

Look for announcements during the run up to PMA 2007. The show begins March 8.

I really wonder why Canon would continue to develop cameras like that when the rebel line costs less...

since the G-series is compact, i assume you were referring to the Pro 1? You've got a point there. I mean, yes the S3 IS has it's own market, but the Pro 1 seems to be hanging in between somewhere...

It costs significantly less than the Rebel plus an equivalent L lens.

It's lighter and more compact than the Rebel for one thing. Also, it has a fully articulated screen, can preview on the LCD, and I assume also can shoot video.

And a new one could include IS as well. I maintain both an SLR and a all-in-one SLR-like camera (right now the S1). The all-in-one's are much better for a quick grab and to have with you when you aren't out to specifically take pictures. More importantly, I'd rather put one in my bike bag than an SLR.
