Yeah, but Canon should have given it to him for free. It makes me sick seeing a company make money off of other people's enjoyment.

Hmmmm...isn't that interesting. Someone who has just joined...knows how to start a thread...has a gripe...and runs when people come running...sound familiar.

Why, Art, my man, you have an excellent point! I think I shall sue Canon for taking my money without even offering me the camera for free! Damn. Maybe I can get them to settle for a lens, think??

Oh, and to answer the last question posed - "Take a moment to quit being offended by someone challenging the place you love, and think about whether or not you want to pay someone else's next Mbz payment."

Now granted, I don't know what a Mbz payment is, but yeah, I really do want to pay my $25 a year to get what I get here. I really don't have a problem with it at all. Were you to suddenly proclaim another site that has the same features but was totally and completely free, I'd still stay here. And pay. I've been assimilated and I like it.

Um there is one things that we have on this site that you don't have Cedew(or whoever you are)...and it's called...FRIENDS!! People pay when they go out with their friends and have a good time...and I can tell you that it costs way more than $25 per year...and we learn heaps of each other at the same time.

Maybe you should go and look up that big word....FRIENDS!!

There will always be someone looking to get something for nothing.

Without looking at what in fact the membership pays for he's made judgements of all who choose to pay the fee.

If he doesn't like it he doesn't have to stay. That's the key in a free market economy. Freedom of choice.

as invalid as this guys claim/opinion may have been, i dont think it warranted all this harsh sarcasm and ganging up here. granted it looks fishy because he just signed up today and all that, but you guys are really too harsh here, it's just uncalled for. and "he started it" or "he did it first" is not an acceptable argument for lowering yourself to someone elses standards. not a great use of the forum in my opinion.

Yes, I can see your opinion. I think that people have been so burnt in the past that when something like this pops up it really does make people a little wary. People like this have ended up costing some members money...and that is not fair.

So justified..maybe we should give this person a chance and listen to him/her. But keep in mind...that it is very rude to come into a site and start throwing a hissy fit within the first 5 minutes when they have not even given the site and its members a chance.

People feel like they are more than just a part of this site...this is like a online home to many...so when they see the site get hammered...they feel like they are getting attacked too. Human nature...sometimes good, sometimes bad...but you have to expect something like this. I am not saying it is right...but take a step back and have a look at the overall picture.

Okay...I will step down now...sorry everyone if I have offended anyone...this post is just my personal opinion.

To me it is less a matter of the site getting hammered and a more personal attack with the presumption that I was "duped" into paying for a membership. I guess I must be a complete idiot because I was subsequently duped into buying at least half a dozen gift memberships for others.

I see the responses, however harsh, as appropriate and don't consider them disproportionate to the initial attack. But kinder, gentler people may disagree.

My kids used to fight like cats and dogs, but dare anyone threaten one, he'd better be prepared to take on the other too!

And now I'm going to actually throw in my opinion on his (her?) question.

I've belonged to free sites, too. I recently took my portfolio out of one after they decided to randomly delete photos from less active users to save space. Note, not INACTIVE user, but less active. They didn't empty anyone out, just dumped random shot here and there.

I've also found that a majority of sites that start out free and become popular find that they can't continue being free as demand on their resources grows. So after everyone's settled in they tell you that if you want to continue to enjoy the benefits you've become accustomed to, you're going to have to fork over or lose them.

Running a decent site takes time and effort. Unless you have a very selfless couple people who are willing to donate vast amounts of these, you need many people each giving a little time. The second is easier to find, but not easy to keep, and not always easy to find QUALITY volunteers. Just ask any non-profit organisation!
Also, you know what happens when you have "too many cooks"

And lastly, people value more what they pay for. They're more likely to become active and contributing members, at first to get their "money's worth" but then because they LIKE it and want help. And any site needs a solid base of activity to survive.
If we could compare activity percentages here between members and registered users I'm sure there wouldn't be any great surprises.

If you were planning a wedding and someone offered to shoot it for free, wouldn't you be a little suspicious? I mean, how good could they be if they don't even get paid? And if they ARE good, then what's the catch???

No, we're happy with our home here and don't mind paying a pittance for rent. We don't want to leave, thankyouverymuch!!!

Would you be willing to shorten the length of your graphic signature line just a bit? I don't run my browser that wide and it causes me to have to scan left to right for the text in every thread you post to :)
