When was the last time you got high? I mean really, really high?
It's where the cool clouds are:

All were taken somewhere over the Midwest, between Ohio & California.
Post-processing for all 6 took about 4 minutes - image, levels, options, default, then sharpen, neat image, resize, & border.
No filters were used on the camera, and was little more than point & shoot - just happened to be in the right place.

great images. I am now looking forward to my next flight :)

really nice stuff, brad. i think it's proof that we live in a world continuously visited by aliens and UFOs; otherwise, how would some many of the early masters have been able to render such incredibly detailed clouds without having visited them the way you did...

Maybe they had big slingshots?

Reminds me a lot of Window Seat: The Art of Digital Photography & Creative Thinking by Julieanne Kost

Interesting book. Not sure I'd recommend it, but it was interesting.
Oh and you should try using a polariser next time. Just don't enter the results in a challenge ;)

Did you use a tri-pod?

;)

Oh Oh!! Can I play?? Pretty please?? :-) Looking at yours Brad, reminded me of some I took on my last trip back from California. There were the coolest clouds up there. Took me a bit to find the folder, but here they are. yay!! I love big fluffy white clouds. These were all taken right before descending into the Atlanta Airport. Hope you don't mind me sharing your thread. ;-)

PP was mainly auto levels, auto contrast and auto color, resized and a Luko USM. I think I used a cooling filter on the second one but I don't think I like it too much compared to the others. :)

Yay - it's a cloud party!

Well, for two of us anyway.

Does being IN one count? :P

Okay, okay, you've inspired me. Now poking through I took coming home from last summer's Alps trip and another up to Vermont.

Ya made me homesick of when I was flying the F-4 Phantom II Jet fighter. It was great chasing such clouds through the sky. On the big fluffy ones (not heavy and dark thunderstorms) I've been able to fly so close that one wing was deep within the cloud and the cockpit stay in the clear blue sky. Wow what a sensation of speed that was. 500 knots and only a few feet from the cloud.
.
Well done, love the beauty of the sky.

Okay, I found one from each my two trips last summer. Brad, what you do in minutes of processing takes mere mortals a bit longer. :)

Edited to add that this is one of my favorite cloud pics, even though the main feature is called "cumulogranite."

Just use the SC jet. They did give you a set of keys, right?

Seriously, I note your camera costs some money, so spend some a little of what's left and go somewhere for a night. Heck, come to DC. We have a guest room. :)

Sometimes they are better from the ground. This one looked like one of my neighbors had just set off his Mattel Home Nuclear device.

But it was only a storm passing through. This is a closeup of that cloud:

(and for those who prefer color, it was sunset at the time:

Hmmm...haven't received my keys to the SC jet. i'll have to check on that!

and my camera, lenses and the rest of my gear were all lovingly and graciously given to me by the fine people here in our DPC family. i say a prayer of thanks for them every day. :)

got hooked into playing around with my new Bibble filters tonight and tried a few different versions of a pic. Which one do you like best? (or do you hate them all)

Reading this thread, I thought I actually could make some use of the portfolio - haven't done so up to now.

The clouds aren't that fancy, but I liked the view of the sea below the clouds.

I'm not too sure whether the light breaking in the scratches on the window actually adds to or subtracts from the image. Didn't want to step out to try without the window in front of me, though ;-) .
