Managed to get myself a black flag at Brands Hatch today (am not proud). Twas the last session and I guess I was a little lax setting the cam up, got some weird footage mind you. Sorry about the quality, had the roof off, go see

Looks like a cool track.

great panning shots of the tarmac and wheel. lol

on a more serious note :- good video not very often you see that view of Brands if you dont drive it.

yup, its was a sucker mount - my bad cos I didn't give it a tug after fitting it to test its suction. Am impressed that it survived bouncing along the Brabham Straight at over 100mph (even though its a little bashed up now).

The day started with lap times above 1min 35secs but by the afternoon sessions 1min 14secs was the norm (not that I timed anything on the day, got the times from the video).

I didn't push it but had a great time and recommend everybody tries it! (at least once). Next time I think I'll self insure as its quite expensive and with a 1.3k excess.

youtube are taking an age to process this vid so heres a link to a rather large divX version, you need to download the free player but the quality far outways youtube and gives a respectable full screen view.

1min 15sec lap

*edited to say*

Its a Smart Brabus Roadster Coupe, 698cc, 74kw/101bhp and yes, its a good view but doesn't really show the blind drop coming out of paddock hill bend I only floored it once there - scary!

I started to edit some of the footage but as you will see got bored quite early into this (my editing skills need practice). Am still pleased with the result and the accompanying music was a blast from the past :)

Not to bad too watch on youtube but the divX version is better quality (read big file).

Enjoy

I'm not getting it. The video camera fell off the car and bounced down the track on its own?

The last bit looks like it's back on the car - it has a reflection, anyway. No?

Gave you 5 stars for that. :)

Man, I'd love to ride that circuit. All the British and World Superbike stuff I have seen there really makes me to want to give it a go there too on two wheels (the long track). Especially the first section with Paddock Hill bend, Druids, Graham Hill and Surtees.... I'd have to borrow my bros R6 though, because my own bike is more suited to Kart tracks (supermotard). :)

Andi, that is so cool...have we found the new Stig ;-)

@levyj413, its was a dogcam on suckers, it broke free and bounce along, it was still attatched to the car (just not properly) and yes, I only knew something was wrong when it bounced onto the back of the car (it had been mounted on the back of the roof).

Thanks Azrifel and yes everone should try it but don't think my 698cc would enjoy the full track. Coming down the dip at Paddock Hill bend was like a fairground ride and can't imagine what it would be like on a bike

ok - i did't have a clue (+ possibly stll dont ;) in my mind 'black flag' is a brand of insecticide
but i really liked the 'bounce cam', the impossible tire views ... the sense of impending disaster + the impossible flip back to the car ;)

really neat !!

@wingyisleeds, thanks, but I doubt 'the stig' would agree lol

@ralph, here is the reason for a black flag (taken from wikopedia)

The black flag

The solid black flag is used to summon a driver to the pits. It is usually used to punish a driver or team for disobeying the rules, but may also be used when a car is suffering a dangerous mechanical failure, such as a loose hood or dragging bumper. The car number of the summoned driver is displayed in a designated place near the flagstand or occasionally on the flag itself. Black flags can be waved at all observation posts simultaneously to order all drivers to clear the track after the starter waves the red flag.

That was my first track day and think I may have caught 'the bug'. There is a small group of smart roadster owners off to the Nürburgring later this year and would like to do another track day before then. Oh, and Talj and I are doing the BritBallRun2007 over the August Bank Holiday (I still have to persuade her to dress in Top Hat and Tails though)

Once I saw it, I understood, but, at first, I thought it was Black Flag the band.
