Originally posted by Elvis_L: Originally posted by eyewave: mouten and Elvis_L, as stated before, I know I don't have the slightest chance to win the FSM (not even to make it to the top 10, as I rarely enter landscapes), I was in just for fun and, of cause, to compete with those who are BETTER than me.
Nikon_Jeb and me just suggested not to count the first month for those who signed-in too late - if you were participating in a sporting event, let's just say a marathon, and you started too late, you also had to bear that time was already counting. Thats the spirit of sports. |
fair enough. that idea was posted as i was typing. |
Actually, if you do decide to do it that way, you could just leave it open and anyone can participate in the fun.
To tell you the truth, if someone like librodo or Gringo were to enter late and by some fluke my extra accumulation allowed me to place better than them, I'd be all puffed up for a week!....8>)
Hey, it's not like we're competing for the big money and I like these side challenges that push me to do my best on a different level.

That's also what I'm looking for. Sorry if I disturbed a more serious process. |

well, I thank you Scott for putting this together.
Excellent work.
And as for people joining late, well I can understand your frustration, but it is all in fun.
There are no virtual ribbons to be won and no money has been lost.
Just concentrate on taking photos and having a good time.

Problem solved!!!
I think this is the fair way to do this.
1. for the people that signed up on time - Free study 2007-01 counts and you receive your points.
2. for the people that wants to sign up late - You can but you will not receive any points for Free study 2007-01. You will have to make that up throughout the year with high scores.
Does this sound fair to everyone?
SDW
You must PM me if you want to join. I will only accept the above exception to the original sign up date for 3 days (Feb 8th - Feb 10th)

Sounds fair to me at least, if you are up for keeping track of all these people I think it´s resonable people can sing up at any time but like you said, only have the free studies after they sign up count. In short, sign up in June and the first five don´t count. |

ok for me, although I find it a bit strange to punish newer members for having missed a thread - but as I said I'm here to try to have fun & improve so if it makes some people more comfortable, I'm happy to start with a handicap :) - and thanks for taking me onboard anyway!

I don't know how one could compete based on points when people are not based on the same number of entries. So don't add me, please! I'd feel better about that anyway because it would mean I wouldn't be under pressure to enter every time. (Same reason I haven't joined any of the leagues). Sorry for the trouble.

Wow! I am a zero! Why, cos I didn't have my camera in time for the first FSM. Well, I have it now and will make up for it next one.
Scott, change me back from sodoff to formerlee, please! Username restored.

I hadn't heard of it before now either. I'm really sorry that I missed it.
I would have liked to participate but I wouldn't want to piss off anybody else. |

I say everyone is welcome if they sign up in the new extended time limit provided by Scott!
This is for fun after all. Hey eyewave, here, have a chill pill. With your scores, what are you worried about?? |

to bad I didn't sign-up on time (I kinda new around here and didn't see the original thread) I would have scored in 15th. |

I just want to ring in as someone who doesn't care when anyone signs up.
To me, this is a chance for someone else to write a script to keep track of my total points, having nothing to do with others.
Eyewave, I disagree strongly with your harsh wording.
Edited to add what I really wanted to ask Scott but then forgot: why are there two tables on that page?

well now there is all this controversy but I WOULD like to join. I didn't do a January free study so no "cowardice" there. Just missed this thread all this time.
It's a year long... come on! How hard can you be on deadlines? |

Ditto on that.
I signed up, changed my name, and forgot to tell Scott! Not sure where that leaves me (tho I PM'd him to find out). I'm not about to get all torqued over it. My mistake, after all. |

Oh I also don´t care who´s in or not and when or whatever BUT I can understand people who don´t like late additions so I thought Scott´s compromize was a resonable one. I mean it´s all for fun anyway right? |

Though it would undoubtedly be a pain in the keister for Scott, the scores could be divided by the number of entries and you can only count those free studies that occur AFTER you sign up. This would accomodate new users as the year progresses. |

yep.....
But I don't know I wanna hear people "sing up at any time" ...that could get ugly.

Why not? We could call it the DPC Idol, that is, if Simon Cowell can agree to join DPC. |

Chilled down, sorry for my harsh wording yesterday. Scott's solution seems to be fair.
