This post processing is amazing. I think it is a little silly for her to expect you to make her look like a totally different person though.
Now I fully realize that EVERYTHING in magazines is FAKE FAKE FAKE...no wonder we women just cannot compete with the models. |

You did an amazing job with the Post processing. She looks like a completly different person. If that is what she is wanting then great job!!! But I think if she uses that for advertising, when people meet her face to face they are not going to know thats her. (Just my opinion)

Hi Folks, i have been reading this post with interest and have to say from a skill standpoint, contrats to the pair of you on what you have done done.
I can understand why someone who may not be blessed with a beautiful complexion would want to have some retouching work carried out, but it should only be slight and not extreme, in the case of this model.
It is fun in the short run to look at yourself in a new light, but the fact remains that it is not really you. It is not a fair representation of the person and if i was responsible for booking this woman and asked to see her, i would be bitterly disappointed and would feel i had been somewhat duped. I am only speaking openly and honestly and do not mean to hurt anyones feelings, but you have to be yourself, especially from a professional perspective. |

Always sparks alot of controversy doesn't it. I myself have mixed feelings.
Thanks BradP for the great tip on the eyes! Thanks as well for the first edit which showed me how to get it as far as I did. |

This thread should have been looked at as a "How to achieve a look" rather than "Is it ethical to achieve this look".

That would be a huge thread. "The Ethics of Art"? I will give you an example. John Singleton Copley painted Mrs. Joseph Scott. When Copley painted this portrait he was to paint her as a woman of charecter, wealth and status. The entire painting is fiction. I see much the same in this photo.
Thanks again BradP.
Now the thread can be officially hijacked! lol.

Try converting to B/W using Channel mixer (or even better layer masks with the split channels). If you use mostly red channel, you will naturally hide a lot of the red blemishes. You can still use the other steps that BradP used for the eyes. Just make sure to do something with the color of the lips if you convert to B/W and use mostly red channel (lips will turn white also). |

I think bradp's impromptu tutorial here should be made a real tutorial.

If the site wants to include it as a tutorial, and your image is OK to use, I have no objections if it can be of help to someone.
I guess the code is already in place and a simple copy/paste can be done.
I know idnic has one already called Pimp those eyes, though this one is a bit different, and is more about fixing than Pimping.

Yes, I checked that before I made the suggestion. |

Very cool, Brad. I tried this on a SP I did of myself the other week..the only thing I didn't do was whiten the iris. I am quite impressed! My eyes are naturally kind of a weird color though, so emphasizing them even just that little bit makes me look like a werewolf or something! LoL Anyway, its in my portfolio if anyone's interested. |

Just an off-topic-ish post, but I think the point Dove try to make is that they don't, and they want to promote natural beauty :)

I think those fat models have tons of make up and photoshop. Or at least that is what I am telling myself at night so I can sleep. lol |

Definitely very flattering make-up and lighting, but I dunno about PS, what about the TV ads? :)

I don't know. They were all on Oprah the other day. They might be big, but they all had perfect skin. If you ask me the "normal" person doesn't have perfect skin. There is always an imperfection or two.
My question is this. Can photoshoping somebody in this maner actually help their self esteem by letting them know that they really are beautiful under those blemishes and imperfections? I think it can work both ways. |

You do know that if this girl ever becomes famous, she is going to sue your ass for showing the non-edited original on a public website! |

Funny you should mention the Dove ads. Yes, they were all on Oprah a couple of weeks ago and they DID all have fabulous skin. But just re-watch the Oprah episode called "Behind the scenes at the Oprah show" and check out how long it took to make Oprah up for a show. I am here to say that she is ''one ugly girl'' without the tons of makeup she wears. And the funny part is, they showed her from beginning (ugly) to end (flawless and gorgeous) Makeup is amazing! So go ahead and photoshop away! I'm sure there are many who have suffered with unattractive skin who would take ugly over pretty if they had the choice -- especially for an album cover.
--And Brad, you ARE a hero to many here! Quit blushin' and stick out that chest with pride! :)
