I have had the pentax ist DL for a couple months now.
I have mostly been shooting indoor basketball photos with it.

//pahl.smugmug.com

I have a couple lens for it already so I would like to stick with pentax.

I have the kit lens. Also a pentax 50mm/f1.4 and the pentax fish-eye 10-17mm.

I am looking at the K100D for the shake redution and the 11-point TTL AF system.

I think the shake redution would be great for not just indoor basketball but for when I get a longer lens for outdoor sports too.

I also wonder if the k100d AF system would be better as all I seem to have now is two AF settings and I can't say it seems to be the greatest AF system for indoor baskeball.

I would love to hear from other K100D owners or anyone else that could tell me the difference between the two or what I could expect going from the a pentax ist to a K100D

Thanks..

As far as the built-in IS is concerned, I really enjoy and take advantage of mine. Check out my portfolio to see examples (especially my "Sports" collection). With respect to the AF, I like the 11-point system. I use the manual AF Point quite a bit. This is where you choose the exact point to have the camera auto-focus on. That works really well. However, I have nothing to compare that AF system with.

sorry man, we - Nikon - hijacked your - D80 - thread.

As you were.

I'm with Amy, Megatherian - give us all your planet building profit and the two of us can have a shiny D200 too!

Nikonised? I think Jack Bauer and his Pentax kicked down the door of that thread and took no prisoners...

And I recommend going one step further to the K10D. I cant imagine the K100D will be that big of an upgrade.

DPReview side-by-side comparison of the DL and 100D...spec wise they look the same to me...

Could you tell me some more about that?
How do you go about picking that one focus point?
What I am wondering is if durring game play it is easy and fast to change or do you have to go though a number of steps to change it.

One thing on my basketball photos is that a lot of them have the subject in the center, because even though I am using manual focus I count on using the green focus light.

As for the nikon and canon idea's. :P

:)

Does the pentax shake redution make much noise when it is running?

On mine - and this isn't a nikon plug - the direction pad is right under the thumb (with a view of the focus point in the view finder). It take less time to do it than to think about it.

I cant hear anything on my K10D, but you can feel the sensor move every now and then (yes, thats normal).

Yeah, the K10D would be cool, but Its twice as much too.

Other then the auto focus system and no shake reduction of any type I am really happy with the istDL.

I am happy with just 6meg pix and the couple lens I have work great.

Ok, the nikon 8fps would be so awesome! :)
But anything that does 8fps is really out of my price range right now.

After all I have more glass to buy this spring.

The K100D has the same AF system as the older DS which I have.

11 AF points is a lot more flexible than the 3 on the DL.
9 of the 11 AF points are cross type sensors so will focus on the horizontal or vertical axis. The AF system is reportedly slightly faster on the K100D and the AF operating range is the same on both bodies.

Active AF point selection is made via the the 4-way controller on the rear of the camera. The OK button can be configured to switch the camera back to the centre AF point but you shouldn't use this config if your using continuous AF. If you want to use continuous AF then the OK button should be set to engage the AF system in lieu of the shutter button.

Hope this helps some.

That sounds great!
I am going to think about it some more over the weekend.
Heading out to another basketball tournament this morning.

Think I will be going with the k100d as it would take care of the couple things I don't like on the DL.

Thanks for all the replies..
