I see a lot of tit-for-tat voting talk in this forum, so I think the process of rating could be improved by making scores and comments invisible until the challenge is over. This would prevent tactical and unnecessarily harsh voting. There seems to be too much emphasis on the score sometimes, whereas it's the comments that are really useful. What do you think?
Having said that I wouldn't mind a blue rosette! ;-/ |

I've not been entering that long but I've definitely noticed my average starts to fall after the first couple of days. Makes you wonder if people vote late and low in an attempt to bump their pic up the ratings? Don't mind people scoring low for a valid reason but low voters rarely leave comments. |

Checking our score is what gets us to actually come to the site 42 times a day. :) |

Absolutely. It's nice to get postive feedback but the negative stuff can be just as useful.

I only come once. It's at 8AM. Then I leave, around 5PM. I guess DPChallenge is like work, really. I only go once a day, but it's for the whole day. Sometimes I put in some overtime at night, too. |

I know I wouldn't be keeping up with the fora as much as I am if I weren't hitting 'update stats' about once every 45 minutes throughout my workday. :->

Wow, you can wait 45 minutes? I wasn't so engulfed in it in "ye olde days" of DPC when you only got an update every hour. With the "update stats" button, it can be hard to get away from when you don't have TOO much to do at that exact moment.

Hey, I think they ought to develop a page that will show us how many times someone updates their stats. That would be a kick. |

You could be right - I wonder how many people get family and friends to log on to score their pic 10 and rate others low?
Anyway, by the end of the challenge I think these kind of votes will have very minimal effect on the overall score (unless of course you get 150 friends to do the above ;)

yeah, I have hundreds of friends lined up to help me get a self esteem boosting ribbon that isn't actually worth anything at all. Forget learning. Winning is what's really important isn't it?
I thought not showing the current score until the end of the challenge was a good idea until i read this post and got reminded that that's how they keep the traffic up. What a good idea! |

And don't forget that you can always turn it off in your preferences, in case you don't want to know the score until the end |

These kinds of votes will be thrown out by the illegal vote thrower outter thingy, so they will have NO effect on overall scores. |

Yea, maybe they should do this. I could get first place every week I had a picture entered. I'm getting better though. I try to wait at least 10 minutes MOST of the time. :)
Gotta go... time to update.

I agree that the traffic's important, so instead we could get a live update of our own rank/position only. It still keeps it exciting, and that way you still couldn't tactically alter scoring because others' ranks would not be visible and you wouldn't know the average score. What do you reckon - or shall I go and get a life?! ;-/ |

We DO only get a live update of our own scores. Where are you seeing other people's scores? |

Good point! I wrongly assumed that paid-up members must see more scoring data than me, as the scores and comments are always being publicised on the forums during challenges. |

Just finished voting and made 38 comments. Hope some of them are useful/ give more feedback to some of you who've not had much.
Of course, I am also commenting on those that strike me most so... who knows?

My score just plummeted after the last couple of votes! Now I know who to blame :) |

LOL
Sorry!
I thought there were some superb entries and gave lots of 7s, 8s, 9s and 10s too...
I did give some low ones but no 1s.
