Has anyone here ever used the Rosetta Stone software to learn a foreign language? I'm taking Spanish at my local community college and I'm not really happy with the class. I feel like it's too elementary not well suited to someone who really wants to learn a lot.
If I can get some good feedback on this software, I'm probably going to purchase it and stop taking the classes at school after this semester. The total software package costs less than my tuition and books, and I'm almost confident I'll learn more...
Anyone tried it before?

I haven't used it ... but have been seriously considering purchasing it also ... can't wait to hear if anyone has used it and what they think of it ... |

I also would like to get it, but need more convincing before I fork over all of that cash.

Have you looked into any of the language instruction Podcasts? Many of them are free, and some that I've seen, even provide workbooks via downloadable pdf's. I haven't looked into what's available in Spanish, but there are some excellent French ones.

You practice your spanish and I will practice my English. Living in UK is not enough LOL |

i thought i posted here allready but i guess not.
My sister used rosettastone to learn indonessian and i think she thought it was fairly helpful. It won't make you fluent by any means but it might give you a good head start on learning the language.

I have not used the software, but their magazine ads feature a gorgeous blonde in a sports car!

We have the program some of our student who are Spanish speakers learning English. I've been impressed with the full program and the complete reading, writing, speaking and listening components that are included. It also moves from simple beginning work to some fairly sophisticated language.
I believe from my experience (which is limited to the overlook) that the program would be helpful if used to its full advantage.
I also believe they have demo lessons. |

Don't overlook Pimsleur Language programs, they are supposed to be quite good, and you can rent them here at Recordedbooks.com. I frequently rent books from them for travel and love the convenience. The courses are also available for purchase, but like RS, are quite pricey. |

Does the program teach grammar? Verb tenses and conjugations?

Never having taken Spanish, I'd hazard a guess that the second line would translate to "The traditional programs don't work very well."
But the first line, I have nooooooo idea! :)
oops, sorry, minor threadjack.... please return to the OP's questions now :D |

1st line: I think it would be better to practice your spanish with the native speakers in this site. (not a literal translation)
You got right the second line :D

I ordered the Rosetta Stone Spanish (Latin American Version) levels 1&2 last week and they both arrived on Friday. I haven't had a lot of time to play with it, but I did write a brief review of my initial findings HERE. It looks really good so far :)
