Need to read Real WOrld Camera RAW by Bruce Fraser. also has a book for CS2 and/or DNG.

so for someone who currently does mostly web only work, but in the future would like to have the option of printing, is it better to stick to sRGB from the start? or is it really not that much harder to start in adobe RGB instead?

In terms of converting from adobe RGB --> sRGB, do you have to make any adjustments? or once you've done the conversion, should the image look "correct" both on web and on print?

thanks

In most cases it's best to work in the widest colour space and when finished convert to the colour space that works best for the intended output. This will give you the most latitude when editing. Just like working in 16 bits/channel rather than 8.

but when converting from adobe RGB -> sRGB, does the way the image appears change? or should it look exactly like it did when you were editing it?

thanks

If the colors are available in both spaces it will look exactly the same. If the colors aren't available in the smaller space then some changes will take place. The nature of these changes depends on the method used to convert.

The only issues I (frequently) have is with very saturated oranges or yellows. They just don't exist in the sRGB palette and the variety of mappings never do them justice. These are colours typical of night shots or neon.

Other than that, most colours should be present or well mapped.

in PS 7 when you are done editing and have saved a Master file in Adobe RGB 1998.

image> mode> convert to profile - choose sRGB and click OK.
