I will be traveling next week and want to take my camera. Is there any issue with digital technology and the airport x-ray machines like there is with conventional film cameras?

None that I am aware of. However I have since there was no film that wanted to see the camera work. I used to have a philip head screwdriver in the bag, a small one, forgot about it and that got taken at the desk.

I travel by air at least twice a month, domestically and occasionally internationally. I nearly always bring my camera, and have had no real issues with security. Occasionally they will go through the camera bag to look at a particular item, most often my cable release.
If you are carrying a film camera, however, be advised that the checked luggage inspection machines use "tomography", with a much stronger x-ray source than the carry-on screeners. Don't leave film, exposed or otherwise, in checked luggage!

nope I have traveled with both my 707 and my D60 alot and have had ZERO problems with the camera or the MS/Memory cards.
Except onec the security people wanted to "check out" my Sony 707, had to show them how it worked..blah blah blah.... i think he was shopping for a camera due to the question he asked about it

i've been travelling a lot the last few months, and the only problem i've had is carrying a monopod... looks too much like a weapon for jfk airport screeners i guess.

Yes. Even with a film Camera, or pretty much all elecrtical looking devices, they may want to see it turn on. Make sure you have enough juice in your batteries, or you might get hassled.
I used to travel a fair bit for work, with tools end electronics. I was once alowed on with a full tool kit (including a cordless drill) as carry on. Not like that's going to happen again anytime soon.
Another remnant of days gone by, I have two complete sets of United Airways Metal cutlery. These babies are collectors items now.

I'm a frequent flyer and go nowhere without my camera. I've never had a real problem, but I have had to explain what an x-drive is for and they almost always want to take a close look at my mini-tripod... I've had more issues with my shoes than my camera :)
