With all this talk about sin, what it is and what it is not, and how to depict it, and how ugly or controversial it is - is the winner going to be able to score above a 6 in this challenge? This may be the lowest scoring challenge ever!

Thoughts?

(By the way, I should get points for creating the most in-cite-ful threads this week "The Title Thread" and "How to Critique this Challenge" - 100 posts total so far this week!)

I hope the winner finishes with about 5.3 :)

There are some very good photos that are able to score 7+ with ease.

I have tosay that, with a few mighty fine exceptions, I thought this was the least creative and least enjoyable bunch of pics I have rated here at dpc

I agree ...Jak... I guess that's why alot of people didn't even bother entering...it was a tough one to pull off.

that's because you probably can't see it unless it's a flower shot or a teddy bear shot :)

Paganini,

Why don't you ease up on the negativity for a while? I see very few posts coming from you with any positive themes. If you don't like teddy bear and flower photos, please score them accordingly and move on. You have made multiple posts on this topic and it's getting old already. With your insight into the world of photography, I expect to see some winners from you soon...

It's a sarcastic remark, duh :) don't take it so seriously dude.

I am winning every time i submit an image, because I submit what i see and what I want to submit, not what the "majority" of people on DPc would LIKE to see. My quote below is in reference to another "negative" quote. He said it's the least creative challenge and i disagree with that. It's only the least creative challenge to people with no creativity.

Don't get me wrong John, but i do have several images that are "cute and cuddly" as i'd put it, you can see it in my gallery. But those are natural/landscape images and they project the feeling i have when I went on a hike. If the challenge topic was "Landscape/Nature" then i have no problem with looking at 80 different water reflections, but if the challenge was simply "Reflections", i'd expect more than the ton of water reflection that we got in that challenge. The Sin challenge is the first i have seen where the photos are at least more creative than i have ever seen on here.

Not I. I agree with Jak. There are a few diamonds here, but overall it hasn't been one of the better challenges, to enter or judge for that matter. I had to move some things around. I hate scoring with a "curve" but I felt it was sort of necessary here. My normal bell curve was looking quite lopsided. I figure with the entries being down, I have a better chance to finish in the top 100 :)

Zadore I think .. you're wrong .. sorry ... the winner is going to be at 5.132 ;-)

I agree with you, Konador. Thought the garbage challenge the least interesting. The one I thought was the most fun to vote on was the Pencil challenge, although I confess that at times my voting was skewed towards the drawing rather than the merits of the actual photograph. It's time again to do a simple, humble object again as a challenge.

Right now I am suffering somewhat from Photography Saturation Syndrome (instead of Saturation, I was looking for a word starting with M, so that I could abbreviate it to PMS but couldn't come up with something). These past two months I have seen so many pictures that my eyes are starting to revolt a little. I used to go several times to photosig every day to see tons of pictures but haven't been there in the last two weeks. The challenges here I would visit a number of times and tweak my votes but can't quite seem to muster the enthusiasm for that either.

Let's focus on the topic here.... anyone think they have the winning score, if so, what is it?

As a published poet and essayist, and a well-paid painter in my past, I certainly don't have to worry about your views on my creativity or lack of it. You are a sad figure.

5.4 ??? This is the highest score that I've gotten so far on a challenge. :-)

Just wondering...how would you know that. I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but seriously wondering how you could know. (Unless of course you have corresponded with someone who told you. Is that it?)

Well, i believe there were a group of us who complained about our scores in another thread :)

For the record, i am in the middle of a 4. And I am anxious to see the distribution, it'll look pretty weird. So unless we're going for the lowest score, i won't win but that's ok. People seems to either love the darkness (contrast wise) and lighting or hate it. And a lot of them said "I don't get it".

I am wondering about the other more disturbing images out tehre and how they scored. I am not sure which one is MarkRob's so i have no comparison

He did not say it was the least creative challenge Pag, he said it was the least creative bunch of pics.

Uh, is there a difference? He's saying the photos submmitted were the least creative -- but i see a lot of creative photos in this challenge, much more so than other challenges. Maybe that's
why the score are lower. I always find some of the low scoring photos to be really interesting and creative and a lot of times more creative and visually effective than the top 3. I am sure there are a lot of viewers who look at a photo and said "I don't get this, ok, he's getting a 1 from me", just as there are voters who vote low for thinking that they've missed the challenge topic becuase they don't understand the photo.

I think this challenge is one of the most difficult yet. We are dealing with images that represent ideas rather than images that represent something physical.

Some people, including myself, are having problems seeing the photographer's vision in some of these images.

In the challenge concept, the image needs to 'speak'. If the title does the speaking for the image, and the image can't stand on it's own, I believe that there is some amount of value loss for the photo...
