Other manufacturers made these guns as well. The design could vary from maker to maker. Remington made a version of this rifle and so did Smith-Corona. I don't know what the little tags are. Maybe these were some type of collectors edition rifles or something.

Would it be to much for them to leave a logo? I was so careful to find and document every marking I could find and googled for over 2 hours, including joining a gun forum! lol

You guys have already helped TONS -- atleast I know what it isn't and have some direction toward what it is. Its in nice condition, looks like someone used the stock as a hammer ONCE as there are 4 or 5 matching marks right on the edge of it, rest is clean and well preserved.

Thanks tons, guys. I will post pics tomorrow (later today since its 2:30am) and perhaps we can verify.

Nope, much too ornate wood and the strap slots are throgh the stock rather than anchor attached underneath. Lovely rifles though, that woodwork is awesome. :)

This one looks a bit too primitive, again the banding where the upper strap attaches doesn't match and the closed trigger guard doesn't match. Shape, sites and barrel size look spot on though.

Those all seem a bit too old.... too curvy on the stock and the magazine I'm looking for is steel-colored, not brass-colored. OMG I had no idea there were so many versions! lol

If it was a camera, I'd note the numbers I see.. google... and be happy! lol From what I can tell on this search, the numbers mean NOTHING! They have helped me NONE in researching this rifle.

Not like this but without the scope and bayonet and tape round the butt is it?

Maybe this antique gun?

LOL not quite right, Jacko! :P

Dave, that looks pretty similar, but hard to say with the tape, scope and bayonette.

LOL If it was in my posession I would have taken a picture of it last night... unfortunately its in my neighbor's house and it would be impolite of me to stomp into his house to get it before he wakes up! :P

I sit possible that a previous owner modified it somehow?
01/23/2007 10:48:14 AM · #67
That's definitely possible, Karma, but everything looked to be aged the same, so I would think any mods were done long ago.

I've just talked to my neighbor, he'll bring the rifle over in a few minutes so I can photograph it in the studio.

Specifically the SMLE Mk. III*, made in 1916 caliber is .303 British.
