Yeah, but.. but... she's really pretty! And young. Really pretty and young, with nice curves and stuff... |
Okay, granted. The rest of us could never look this good.

LOL, nude challenge. My butt has plenty of curves, but I'm worried it will fill the whole screen. Wait, I could use it for the Fill the Frame challenge! As it is white and likely alien-looking, people might mistake it for the surface of the moon and score it well! |

Hmm..my bf has been complaining about 'nude' pix of me (which he took, btw) in recent challenges, so I better get some shots of him for this challenge! |

Oh yeah, after this challenge I'd like to post both my current entry in Wildlife and an outtake from it, which my bf, who studied as a graphic designer/draughtsman and thus has a fairly good eye, preferred.
I chose the pic I entered because although not as strong compositionally, I felt there was inherently more drama. The other shot is better in composition but, I felt, lacking in the drama - which I thought especially important for a wildlife challenge.
Any ideas? |

Will look forward to seeing both photos side-by-side after the contest ends! I've found overall with wildlife that people want it as sharp as a tack and if it is not an unusual capture, it had better be an extreme close-up, a beautiful silhouette, or a good action shot. Tough stuff. |

And she really knows what she is doing with lighting and composition! I may give it a try though. You've convinced me to think about it.
BTW. You are all going to be a bit disappointed in my Match. It really isn't anything special, its just "nice" and hits the challenge right on the head. |

You wanna know why? Your work is more art than stock. It's actually too good and too cerebral to be stock. I've no doubt you'll find a market for it, though. |

Yes, stock is a very different beast. Mostly just an instant "wow" factor that really loses it's appeal after a month. Art photography is like fine wine.
Now, I wish mine was less like sour grapes. |

I'd settle for at least grape flavored KoolAid (punch type drink for the non-US contingent - I don't know if they even make it anymore since I'm pretty sure it was just colored sugar water and therefore not very good for you.)
Hi, my name is Deb, and I'm a DPC addict. It's been 24 hours since I received my last comment....
Sigh. This is what happens when you're mediocre. |

thank you so much Deb, but I don't think it is. they said I have bad lighting, bad compositions and well, bad ideas. maybe they are right, but it only makes my learn and experiment more. |

silverfoxx I think stock photography may not be the right avenue. You don't take "pretty images." You develop pieces of art, which is why so many people have you listed as one of their favorite photogs on this site. Last night my husband, who went to art school and has a degree in lighting design, saw some of your photos while I was flipping through Team Suck profiles for him. He immediately said, "Who's stuff is that? It looks like it belongs in a gallery." I nearly punched him because he liked it much better than my photos:-) You've got a gift. Don't worry about stock. |

Catherine, you mustn't 'nearly punch people'. Don't back down. Let it rip.
(This I say in the safe and certain knowledge that I have miles between me and your husband). :)

Raish, you trouble-maker....
And Svetlana, yes, I am very much a cat person. You'd like Sir Thomas - he has quite the personality. Wild little thing most of the time, but then on rare occasion he'll crawl into my lap and just purr!!! And Miss Emma is a sweetie most of the time, but every now and then she feels quite compelled to attack my ankles when I least expect it. Great fun, they are!
OK, team, I need opinions... what, to you, constitutes "minimalism"? |

Oh, and I'd like to throw a "Hmmm.... OK!" kinda yappie to one of our own, outside of the normal Yappie competition. From levyj413, on one of my weirder shots:
This is something like what I'd expect to find in an art show. I wouldn't necessarily like it a lot, or say it's a great picture. But it reminds me of the stuff art galleries and museums love, and it'd get me to stop and wonder about it for a bit. And next to it, I'd expect to find an impossible-to-understand plaque with bizarre references saying something like "Paws (2006): By comparing cat paws with shadow and light, Deb Fort reconciles the seeming meaninglessness of ads for ringtones on cell phones with the harsh realities of life as a fast food employee." It'd probably sell for $15,000. :)
And it's generated two more comments commenting on the comment.
Sometime's a girl has to find fun where she can. :-) |

Why can't I win a normal Yappie for this? :P
Maybe it's an OOBYAPPIE?
Thanks for mentioning it; it's fun to know that others have reacted to it. And one of 'em is Ursula!

Nah. For me pretty simple, the shot has to be simple and uncluttered. |

Well, if I asked my husband, who loves minimalism, he'd say a stark white room with one Noguchi chair in front of a single firelog. I kind of tend to go with the Zen idea - the one blade of grass, the tiny person on a low horizon, a snail inching across peacock feathers - wait, that's flamboyment minimalism, and it's not allowed in this contest :-) |
