I've been out of the forums lately. I just started a new job. But, I just noticed a raging debate on the wildlife/zoo shots. IMHO, zoo animals are still wild and that is where I shot my shot. You wouldn't know it to look at, so I'm confessing now. I don't feel bad about this in anyway. The only wildlife you will find around my way is squirrels. It's not a DQ offense, so I won't feel bad! Looks like I might get my PB with this one too.

Way to go, Kelli! And don't worry about the zoo/non-zoo people in the forum. The idea is to present the critter in a natural enviroment. May of the critters at zoos were born there so it IS their natural environment! Besides, when shooting at a zoo, one has to compose to eliminate those manmade indicators - still a learning experience and a good exercise. And the chances of getting eaten by a wild animal are much slimmer. :-)

Well....yeah, that's to that one you have and that's the D70, not the (s), and I had to seriously fish around before I even found the one that was there, and you said you made your own, so I went to the Nikon site and cut and pasted part of the D70s ad pdf and PhotoShopped it
'til I got what I wanted, then uploaded it and stuck it into my signature on my preferences page and it shows up on my profile but not actually in my signature.

So that's where I am and I'm too stupid to know what to do now.

Can you help me fix it?

PLEASE???????

I'll just slip this $50 under the monitor, 'K?

EDIT: OHMIGAWD!!!!!!

I went to do this edit 'cause I put an ampersand instead of the dollar sign and it looks like it's fixed!

I screwed up and did it after all!

All that whining for nothing!

And for those of us who don't have signatures turned on, it's transparent. Heh heh heh....

Oh - question - does everyone know how to check and see if they have comments, particularly on older shots? I'm just wondering because I tend to leave comments on portfolio images and closed challenges and a lot of those never get marked as "helpful". I often wonder if the recipient just never sees them.

On your profile page, in the upper left, is a box showing among other things the number of comments received. If you click on the number, it will list them all. You can sort by changing the drop down to see comments NOT marked helpful to see if you missed any.

Dude! You are a sickdog!!! I love your Battle entry even if I am one of the only males on the planet that didn't have to be broken to have a little consideration.

Love your e-mail addy too!

You're a credit to Neanderthals everywhere!......8>)

Seriously, I suspect that this is all subterfuge and you're actually a S.N.A.G. (Sensitive New Age Guy)

Right?

First, a big congrats to skewsme for her top ten finish in Battle! What a great photo!

Wildlife is going well, but I'm not overjoyed with my shot, so suspect it will drop a bit...though I admit I'm hypercritical of my own wildlife photos as I'm actually hoping to go professional with them (did I say that out loud?) someday.

I dunno if this will hpold or not, but this'll be my second above 6.0 score if it holds. I'm really happy with this unusual departure for me, it's a learning exercise, and everybody who's seen it around here has especially liked it. My wife liked this shot so much that she used it for a background for the business cards that she made for me for Whiskey Spring Studios.

nikonJeb,
Glad to see you got the sig working.

My wildlife entry is free falling into 5.9*** and that has really annoyed me.

I was hoping for better response. ah well!!!

And once again, my Team Suck mentors and supporters have managed to overcome my fears and incompetence and help me to get my OCD weirdness out there for the world to see by helping me with my avatars.

What I'm saying is.....you guys are cosigning my stuff!

That's scary on a couple of different levels!

EDIT: I didn't see my change, so I'm trying it again.

Re-Edit: RRRrrrr!!!! I tried to resize my team avatar, it appears that it worked in my picture files, but for some reason, it didn't work on site and now my PS is giving me this pop-up that says that it's configuring for MAC when I try to save files and now I don't know what to do.

Just can't seem to get to 5.6.

I have a shot entered for Entrance but I just don't know if I like it well enough to leave it. I have several to choose from but none of them have a WOW factor to me. And I took a lot of shots.

I have a shot that I am considering entering in Free study but I just don't know if it would be too much for the DPC voters to handle without going into "Nasty" mode with their comments.

Edit: I have to find a mentor.

If you are using Photoshop with Windows and try to save with a filename that is incompatible with the MAC filename conventions, by default you get a popup message. Some things you can do: use a shorter file name, separate words with an underscore instead of a space, turn off that checking in Photoshop.

Mist, don't blame Vincent for the "airy-fairy" (whatever that means) language. The notes are mine. The session was over an hour long lecture, discussion, and Q&A given in front of the stage without notes. It went very fast, and I did my best to jot down a few ticklers to help me remember the points he was making. This man sells his prints for $1,000 apiece, and I don't mean prices them at $1,000 -- they sell. His prints, all of which he makes himself, are exquisite! He is an accomplished artist and a highly sought after teacher, and I was happy to have to opportunity to listen.

Obviously, we can't learn to be artists, but we can adjust our goals and strive for a higher level of artistry. My purpose for listening to people like Vincent Versace and to viewing their work, is to help me decide if I have set my goal in the right direction.

Oddly enough, the biggest boost to my confidence and my firmest grasp on reality has been since joining DPC.

Because of people like Joey Lawrence, librodo, Gringo, and a few others, I know where the bar can be as far as truly awesome talents and great photographers.

By the same token, through hard work, tips, and one ferocious learning curve that seems to come with being here, I have become and am comfortable with being a *good* photographer.

I sell photos and my friends and contacts all like the majority of my work, and I'll keep refine my talent over time as long as I keep my eyes and mind open.

You cannot learn talent, but you certainly can improve upon and hone what you have with learning and practice, and this site is a good test and a good index to key from to keep going in an upward direction.

How cool is that?

Now if only I could figure out how to size the Team Entropy avatar so it'll match my Nikon one, or vice-versa, I'll be set.

According to my files, they're both 103 pixels high, but they aren't the same size at the bottom.

I've tried four different times to resize and load it so that it works but I'm obviously missing something.

Some days I hate my inability to figure out the little sh*t like this!

I think I'll go take a nap.

Hey, I think that Sean, cutlassdude70, is one heck of a talent, has a really good grasp of the skills, and a truly terrific attitude. He is also graceful and considerate with his critiques without gilding the lily, and most easily worked with; at least he was for me. I had asked him if it was okay to refer him and he said sure.

Drop him a PM and tell him I recommended him and give it a go.

I certainly blame him for a lot of the progress I've made here.

He's scary worldy, grounded, and knowledgeable for one so young.

It actually amuses the daylights out of me to have a mentor half my age!

I have entered all the challenges that are currently open except for Nude, which I will not be entering.

My current scores:
BO 2006 fluctuates between 5.8 and 5.9. It will probably end at 5.8+.
Match fluctuates between 6.4 and 6.5 and will probably end a 6.4+.
Wildlife :-( has clawed its way up to 4.9 (58 votes) from a very bad start.

juliboc just looked at Vincent Versace's website. Inspirational. No wonder he sells prints for $1000 / per. BTW- can't wait to see your match photo!

Let me encourage everyone to give Nude a shot. It doesn't mean you have to bare anything you wouldn't show at the pool or beach. The human body is full of interesting curves and shapes that can be made even more interesting with lighting.

I've never shot a nude, and I initially thought I'd skip it, but changed my mind to the thinking above.

Look at silverfoxx's stuff - she doesn't actually reveal anything, but she uses her body to create fascinating images. And you don't even have to show as much as she does to get nice stuff.
