magnetic9999 suggested a great site, photographytips.com, i've probably learn more on this website then i have in the past 3 weeks. but i don't see anything on digital cameras, and it talks about aperature, and depth of field, and film speed, and shutter speed, and how adjusting these could make all the different. but i havn't found anywhere in my manual how to change these. is it even possble with digital cameras? and if so, where can i find out how. (i've already tryed the canon website)

hey thanks man, glad that helped ya! : )

Sure, there's stuff there about exposure but there's also LOTS of good stuff about composition, backgrounds, posing, colors, working with animals, landscapes, lighting you name it. So even if you had a point and shoot, you could get a ton out of this site.

with the pshot a10 you can change the white balance and the exposure compensation, which is useful if you're shooting against a bright background or strong backlight, see p46 of the manual ..

what i did when all i had was a kodak dc 50 point n shoot was use interesting pieces of cloth as backgrounds, and use desklamps and such to light things interestingly from good angles and bring out highlights on objects. you really dont need a god camera to be creative : ) .. in fact in some ways that can get in the way ..

Those kinds of adjustments are certainly true for the higher-end digital cameras. I don't know the A10 very well, but from looking at the specs it looks like everything is pretty automatic, so you have little control over these sorts of things, other than maybe adjusting the exposure compensation and the use of flash. You can still get some quite cool effects just playing with the exposure comp.

Higher end (cost!) digicams let you vary aperture, shutter speed, effective film speed, depth of field, white balance and all of the similar things you can do with a film camera.
