OK so last summer I decided to take the plunge into freelancing and photojournalism. I applied for a position at a local small town once a week paper. I have worked hard trying to get my foot in the door and getting things started. I have learned so much here on DPC and from members that have taken their own time to help me out.
July 27th I had my first photo published and was thrilled. I worked hard to keep my name in front of the news editor, and when the school season started I worked to get in with the sports editor. I started with one football assignment for him and eventually earned weekly assignments from him and also got the occasional bone from the news dept. Well fast forward to January 18th 2007. With the paper that was printed this week I have had 100 photos published. Granted the sports editor is a photo guy. He loves to use many photos from each of his photogs a week. This week alone I had 14 photos from 2 assignments combined. I had 6 in the south edition and 8 in the north edition.
So besides tooting my own horn a bit, I want to remind each of you that if you have a dream to do something with your photography go for it. Its alot of work but if its your dream its worth it seeing your work published weekly.
