Oh, I'm so, so sorry, Catherine. In case it ever comes up again, you can just click the button to "unsubmit" a photo - no need to send a note to the SC.

Hey, check out the new challenges and the "minimal editing" rule set! Those of you just beginning to figure out processing, take heart. :)

Catherine, I'm sorry to hear about your exif issues. I keep meaning to check mine - in fact, we all should do that. On the plus side (there's always gotta be a plus side, righgt?) you can post your shots to your portfolio and we'll go take a gander (but not a goose), AND if the weather cooperates, you can go shoot again and get something even more spectacular. Maybe stuff for a few other challenges while you're out there, too! Just check that date before you start! |

While i have a couple of decent shots i feel my overall quality to be low. so i am getting smarter and more focused in what i do. That and I dont like 2nd place...LOL ;-)
I have always been told i am very competitive and thats the reason for the goals. For the first time in 7 years I am a lot more focused in my personal life and work life. This i hope will reflect in better photography.
My biggest problem is trying to think of subject matter for challenges. I always ending up thinking way outside the box and getting marked down for it.

may I ask you one thing? sorry, it's probably an offtopic here.
does anyone sell photos on dpc prints? if you do so what do you charge? I have uploaded some photos to sell and can't decide what price I should write there. how do you choose the price?
all this photography thing is new to me. and I have never sold and never even tried to sell anything:)
but it looks like a fun game so I decided to try now.
thank you! |

I have one for sale and I just picked numbers. I haven't sold any copies of it yet, so maybe I should pick other numbers. I just looked around at stuff other people have up to see what they are charging. |

I got pretty excited about the minimal editing. Then I looked at my placement on my "Straight from the Camera" shot (336 out of 385, which is the bottom 13th percent) and got incredibly DISexcited.
Although I am still happy to see that this possiblity is now a reality. |

Yep. See the link below all of my posts? ;)
I poked around a bit and settled on $5 for 4x6, $10 for 8x10, and $20 for 16x20. I've sold all of 2 copies of my highest-scoring shot, so I hope you do better. :)

Do you advertise? If you don't advertise then I reckon 2 shots is not at all bad, considering. |

Sorry I was asking levyj413 if his sales had come about without any advertising. I left your quoted part in by mistake. |

Svetlana - thanks for the comment on my weird little wall shot. It wasn't an action - I was just playing with different stuff in PS and trying out some very basic masking. I'll have to look at the history file when I get home, but mostly I think it was blending modes (I like overlay and soft light mostly) and added blur then masked out the vine. |

I just pulled my photo from the wildlife shoot. I know this sounds stupid, but it actually made me a little teary to do so. Maybe you all will tell me it sucks, and then I'll feel better :-)
But, as melethia says, maybe I'll have a chance to go do another shoot before Sun night. And I am excited about the 'straight from camera' shoot, as I don't tend to do a lot of editing, anyway.
Edit to add: be sure to check your date setting before you do a shoot!

noraneko, If it makes you feel better, your picture sucks!!
Hell, I can't even say that with a straight face. I really hope you can get out again and redo it. |

I quite like it, Catherine, but take heart in the fact the "it must be straight!" and the "there can be no harsh shadows!" factions might have dinged you for it. Great detail in the feathers and very nice color, by the way. :-) |

Melethia, you actually made me feel better, as did bmartuch. I'll just have to go out and get a better shot. Team Suck is a great place! |

I think that's a great photo, but, yeah, people would have moaned about the angle. |

I trust you've all read up on the new editing category? Pretty much straight from the camera. Excellent learning opportunity! |

I'm excited about this challenge, as it will showcase those who really know how to use their cameras...without Photoshop's help. Should be very interesting challenge to vote on! |

Noraneko: you can still put it in the free study. Everyone else: shh. Don't tell her I would've voted it a 6 or 7 in the wildlife challenge so she won't get a swelled head.
Mist: I advertise by putting links to my prints page on every site where I participate. Last count was *stares at fingers for a second* 6. So no, not much advertising. Your point is a very good one for Svetlana and anyone else to take into consideration: putting it on DPCPrints is primarily a distribution accomplishment. By itself, it's not going to sell a lot of material.
One of my two sales was from someone on DPC seeing it in a challenge and the other one was from a friend at work. She told me she bought the little tripod I own, and I sent her a link to the pic as an example of the results you can get with it. She loved it, so bought it. :)

Suggestion: Maybe when posthumous has a chance he could edit the first page, first post and post these nomination links in somewhere. |

Hey Catherine,
I like the shot of the heron, but yeah, I can see the 'only good horizon is a horizontal horizon' faction sniffing at it. Nice shot!

I got a surprise shot yesterday when I did Wildlife. As my subjects weren't exactly holding still, I just got in with 'em and shot and shot and shot (from a safe distance). I didn't even realize I had a really dramatic shot til I had downloaded the pix at home and was culling them.
Now I have to do some careful editing and remove extraneous limbs, heads etc...but I have high hopes for this pic! |
