My dream is closer. In February I will be out with a Carrier group for 2-3 weeks. A very good chance of taking off and landing on a carrier and full access while I'm there. This is all for a book I'm trying to put together and get published the funny part is the Paper I work with locally put out an opportunity to go to Iraq and cover General Mattis for three weeks. The catch is while I'm there and an opportunity to be emmedded comes up I have to take it. So I spoke to my wife and we are in agreement that I should go. I feel it's much to important and assignment to pass up and would fast track me to where I'm trying to get as far as photography. This should have the makings of some great stuff. I am so happy and wanted to share with everybody here at DPC Can anybody teach me Arabic?? |

You suck.
Lucky dog you....
What an opportunity!
I've refueled alongside a Carrier, been in a Battle Group with them, escorted them around the world, was at the Nimitz Commissioning ceremony with the late President Gerald Ford officiating, but never had the opportunity to land on one - was always a dream to do that.
:(
Like I said, you suck.

Watch your six and pass on regards from Australia to Gen. Mattis. We'd gladly cover his right flank as he storms hell itself.
Background.
Gen Mattis had the Australian SASR task force under command in the early stages of the war in Afghanistan. After our guys had finished operations with him he wrote a letter to the head of the Australian Special Forces which ended saying, "We Marines would happily storm hell with your troops on our right flank." |

As a child I spent a few days at sea aboard the U.S.S Ranger. Very much a world of its own. Best wishes to you. |

I was stationed aboard the USS John F. Kennedy in the early 90's as a combat photographer. Most of my best memories and shots came from the flight deck. If your not going to shoot the carrier stuff, I would be more than willing to go in your place. Its the only thing about the Navy I miss. |

Well, I'm sitting here in a parking lot somewhere near Mira Mar Air Base waiting for the PO to show up. I get to start off my photography with a little boom boom as they refer to it. They have a mock up Iraq village and they've hired actors to play civilians and bad guys to help train. They'll be using pyrotechnics and lots of blank ammo. I will post some pics later when I'm done. If I survive MUAAWW HAAA HAAA HAAA
I'm so excited !!!!!!!

I would recommend going into your portfolio and creating a folder just for this then just link us to that.
Good luck while you are over there, don't let your excitement get in the way of being careful and watching your back. |

I guess you should get lessons from BradP - lessons in hanging out the top of a speeding car (he is driving) and using a DSLR to compose, focus, and photograph nice scenes..... Hanging out a cockpit coming in to land on a carrier can't be that much different, right? ;-) |
