Nothing on pure glycerin gelcaps, but these contain it as an active ingredient:
Drug Category: Stool softeners
-- Help keep stools soft for easy natural passage.
Drug Name
Docusate sodium (Colace, Surfak) -- Surface-active agent used in painful anorectal conditions and cardiac conditions where maximum ease of stool passage desirable. [b]Therevac[/i] mini-enema is a combination of glycerin and docusate sodium in polyethylene glycol base. Has been shown to produce more rapid results than a bisacodyl suppository. Available in 100 mg cap, 20 mg/5 mL syrup, and 200 mg/5 mL microenema.

My doctor instructed me to use glycerine suppositories on all three of my children as babies whenever they were constipated. The ones I bought were not in a shell. They were like little sticks with almost a soap-like consisitency. When you hold them for even a few seconds, they begin to melt. I don't know how useful they would be for photography...but if you have a kid who can't do #2, they're a miracle drug. ;)

Another from today to show you all that I'm not going totally soft.
I did try to put some Glycerin on this guy but he was having none of it. However, he did agree to tear up some flowers for me.

Camera battery just died, so I'll have to change batteries and start downloading again, but I'll have some shots on the way soon. |
Nice. Can't wait to see'em. |
Reverse reinforcement:
I went out and made some shots of guys playing hockey. No glycerin. Their language is not too great when they get sent to the penalty box :) |

O.K., I tried to bring in some reinforcements but I came up short of an 'Ursula'. My shots of flowers today didn't come out like I expected. |

If you have anywhere around you that sells Wilton baking supplies, they sell glycerin. Comes in 2 oz bottles for around $2. Michael's, AC Moore, etc. usually sells the Wilton stuff.

Thanks for the suggestions. It's a pretty small town though. We have grocery stores, wal mart, eckerd, walgreens just opened, big lots and dollar general. that's about it really. I looked at all of those places today. Maybe I should just take a couple hour drive to jacksonville! I always like a reason to get out of town :P |

REALLY? I didn't ask anyone, I just looked. Guess I'll try again and ask. The trouble here is that even places like eckerd, etc. that would carry it is in larger cities just dont have everything here since the demand for things is lower. so hopefully walmart does have it. I will definately try again. |

I had my daughter pick some up a few weeks ago... told her to just ask at the pharmacy. It was behind the counter! $2.66 for 4 oz.

Ok, quick question for all this glycerin stuff. I read in this thread that you're supposed to mix it 50-50 with water...but how are you supposed to apply it to whatever your subject might be? Just a spray bottle or what?

I used a plastic syringe that was previously used to give medicine to my cat. I suppose an eyedropper will work.
I'm also curious how it might work through a spray bottle? |

I've used a normal spray bottle you can pick up in any housewares section. Beware, if you leave it sit for months it may grow stuff in it.

But then you can spray more H2O/gliceryn combo on the stuff, and get beautiful pictures of waterdrops on stuff! |

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. It would take forever to put all those droplets on with a syringe or eyedropper... Time to make a run to Walmart!

Dollar stores have inexpensive (and pretty good) little spray bottles, in packages of two, and they come in cute colours. |
