Congratulations Photointerest on your Centered challenge entry, "Ruby Red", 5.8785 90/411. MAK has done some selected desaturation in the For Sale challenge and others. I agree with the comments on sharper areas and arrangement of the hair. I would've even centered the bottom of the pendant with the upside down V and then cropped to center the pendant on the image. I also like the composition, it's like right out of a jewelry catalog. |

John - omg what a great shot! Too bad I did not do that in the competition. Would have drawn many comments for sure lol.
Do you mind if I lift your photo? My SIL is an OSU grad and FAN-atic. She would dig it!
Teresa - thanks for the comments. I tried the BW and just felt it looked so lifeless. So I tried something new - live and learn lol
Well I am kicking myself now for not sharpening my BW just a little bit more. Maybe I would be in the 5.0 range then! HA! But I love the photo and plan on printing it. I did start at a 4.4 and now am up to a 4.7. Hoping to at least break the 5.0 range OR finish in the top 50%. There really are some good BW photos in the challenge!

I was thinking of taking a shot with panning since it will have the less amount of entries. lol Though Im not to sure what subject to use.
I am so totally stumped on a battle of the sexes shot. I might just skip it. |

i think deb/dsterner has dropped out but you'd have to make sure from john .. he's been in touch and said that he works on a 'first in first served' basis .. so i'm hoping i was first ...
he said to check out the thread 'Are there any WPL team Vacancies??'..which i've just done ...
after reading that i'm thinking that there might be a few other ppl who were 'first in' ... anyway, i'm sure wot's meant to happen will happen ..!!!
he asked if i was keen ... that's a bit of a joke if you see how much i've got in my portfolio and then realise i've been in dpc for less than three months ... :)

No one has dropped out. xxrozxx emailed all the team captains earlier this week to see if there were any possibilities in joining a team. I emailed her this morning stating that I would ask the other members of our team for a vote. Meanwhile I did ask her if she was interested and has not joined another team yet.
xxrozxx Please wait patiently and see the results of the votes by Saturday evening or sooner. The deadline for any changes is Sunday the 15th. Whatever the results, I am still always willing to help anyone to get started in improving their photography skills. |

I was just too busy with work, so I missed out on my Best of 2006 and the B/W Portrait. I am going to enter the "Motion Panning II" and "Battle of the sexes" challenges.
I'm hoping for enough outdoor light for the motion panning, but I think I have a good idea for the other one. This will be my first try at motio panning, I have looked at the last challenge results of this category. My wife said we still have the book "Men are from..." around, so I'll look at that tonight and share any ideas I find. Second choice is to do a match idea at home or outdoors.

I came up with a really good idea for 'battle of the sexes' but I can't pull it off in time. *sniff* |

I know that feeling, sometimes many elements get in the way, such as the weather conditions in that particular area of the world.
I've found that weather does change many times during a 48 hour period, some times you have to wait for a glimpse of sun, if that's what you're looking for or look for a substitute.
People can have fun in the rain, too, just have a gallon sized freezer zip lock bag/rubber band around your lens, and a golf umbrella for your tripod.
You can try an easier or more suitable challenge. Mainly keep your great ideas on hand. It can possibly be used in a future challenge, with or without some slight variations. Like keep the title make a blue background if the challenge is the color Blue.
Any interesting things you see in the world or ideas, write them on a futures list. |

I have book I write ideas on. Its on my nightstand because good ideas usually come REALLY early in the morning. Like this one did. I'm going to do this shot eventually because I think it will be a good stock shot in general for my library. but it deals with a bit of construction and materials I can't get my hands on in time. |

This weekend I'll come up with our proposed team logo for review and editing by others as needed. Any graphics for ideas welcome.
I am also requesting a color face portrait you can email me, that you would like to use for our team "Trading Cards". Just browse the forums and click on one to see the size needed style examples. Some of them have wild faces. It can be plain or theatrical like the Joker in playing cards. |

wow, some people are really mean.
I just got a comment on my best of (that was a screw up) and now I understand the reason for the self DQ rather than just leave it ride.

sorry to hear you had to endure mean spirited comments. Now that I know this official thread exists, I have been watching all night while completing my IEP's for school...but there's nobody here tonight...what's up with that? |

Hi Deb:
I'm checking in late tonight as I just got home from the hospital from seeing my brand new nephew! He is so adorable!
Alas, I have NO ideas at the moment for the challenges......hoping for a brainstorm MIRACLE!!!!! *she says, yawning with exhaustion*
It's been a real ride of a week.
Teresa, I know what you mean about bad comments. I've had some that have made me wonder what the heck I'm doing in here at all! Then, I dust myself off and go back at it, hoping that I'll get better ones. At the least, it MAKES me want to take a shot and try. Keep your chin up. We all get these types of comments. Perhaps, it's at a point where people have simply overdone the voting periods and are just stabbing because they are tired and can't think of something good to say at that moment. I recognize that sometimes, I've been tired and been brief in my comments. That makes my comments sound "cold and harsh". I don't mean them to sound that way.....just comes across that way.

This is the photo with the wrong date & time stamp taken during our summer carnival. I tried several times to get the kids to turn around and flash me a smile. I even climbed in the bounce house to get the right shot...but I was bounced around too much (go figure). It wasn't until later, while standing next to one of the counselors, did it occur to me to use the school's use of consequences for actions. Using her best "teacher voice" the counselor told each group about to pass through the bounce house "If you don't turn and smile at Ms S when you get to the top, there will be no more activities for you!"
While the kids saw right through us, they did delight in pausing for a bit to smile for me. |

I know the comments can be pretty harsh sometimes, I was actually in a pretty good mood and let it roll off, but I couldn't help thinking 'Damn, a little diplomacy would have got a long way here!' lol
Im usually the one doing the consoling. lol
Oh well, what more can I expect when I screwed it up.
Deb,
I really like your kids shot. A funnier shot would have been you in the bouncy thing too! I can just imagine that one! hehehe
I am glad you were able to bluff a few kids into giving you the grins.
Sorry about the timestamp issue.
