I'm thinking that too now. 100 foot (33 meters ;-)) of Cat5 cable can be bought online for about $25US. Wireless PCI cards can be bought fairly cheaply too. This is probably the least expensive and most robust solution.

This is very true but don't waste your money on a switch if you only have 5 computers. A hub is much cheaper and will be plenty to get the job done. You will connect it just as a switch. A hub is just like a switch only not as smart. Switches are only needed in large networks. |

Note that the switch doesn't have to be in the same room as the router. I've got a couple of PCs hooked to a switch because I was to lazy to run another CAT5 cable to that room.
If you want to add a wireless connection and you've got a wired connection to the other end of the house (or near the new PC) add a wireless access point and set it to a different channel than the router. You may want to add a switch so you can have the existing computer connect over the Ethernet cable. |
