I seem to have a poorer ratio of views to votes than you guys, but more comments. They seem to range from terse to helpful.

The score is less than what I expected.....I was actually pretty happy with the shot.

But then I guess I shouldn't worry too much since all of the scores in this one seem to be running below everyone's expectations.

If I get a 4 on this I will be happy. Since we have about 15 pages of subpar scores now, I don't believe there's a couple of trolls under this bridge. There's a whole friggin' TRIBE of em. :)

Well, after my Rant, I have lightened up.... It seems my score has normalised around the 5.1 region. Looking at it from a Newbies perspective:
Would love to have it higher
In realitiy, its what I expected & its what its worth.

So, my next question....how do we start a "Sub Contest"? Anyone up for a newbie league?

Well, I'm still hoping that my score will creep up past my average. ::sigh:: But, I still can't get over the number of comments for such a low score. I have one of those photos that you either really loved or really hated! :-)

About where I expected mine to be. I entered it because I liked the lighting and subject, but there are some issues with the composition that I didn't like, so I didn't expect a high score.

I'm surprised so many people are doing so poorly. I'm not voting in this challenge, because I'm not a portrait person, and voting on 500 portraits would kill me, but I took a quick look at the pool, and didn't see anything out of the ordinary.

I tried out the Advanced rules a bit, & liked the result as it pleased my model. The comments are indicating that it looks like I cheated or totally failed to use the camera correctly, which I'm taking as a backhanded compliment. I didn't expect to win & am happy w/whatever score I get. It's been very interesting, so far.

Man oh MAN! A score like that could ribbon in this challenge!

P.S. I peeked at your portfolio, Dan and I just want to tell you that this old man is SO jealous of the work you are putting out at your age.
01/11/2007 09:53:43 PM · #362
haha i doubt it. I looked through some and there really are some great pictures that i have no doubt will score higher than mine.
I dont belive that age matters at all. But thankyou anyway
01/11/2007 10:28:53 PM · #363
Well let us just say I have a LOT fewer years to learn (and improve) than you. LOL

Been taking my time on voting. I've been commenting on any 3's or lower (dont normally vote below 3). I'm really surpised at the all the low voting going on. Most all are B&W and most are portraits. So far very few major tech. issues that would drop below a 4. Not to say I like all of them. I believe the average vote on this site is way to low. So far voted on less than half and only one 3. and a handful of 4's. Just for the record I'm average to below average on this site and above average on several other sites. My score is in the mid 4's. Tech. good, meets the challenge, yet I know why its at that level. If you want to do well here check out scalvert post on how to ribbon. I just do my own thing and I'll take the hit 99.9% of the time. This is starting to become a rant. So if you get a comment from me take it with a grain of salt, if you disagree, its just an opinion.
Dam the meds I'm on are good!

edit; having trouble spelling to night on the comments I've made....

Just out of curiosity I tried to search for that thread and got 15 pages of results no matter how I tried to filter it.
Can you give us the URL of that thread, please?

B:
From what I can figure (but I am a newbie here) ... you have received one ribbon and Scalvert none. Am I missing something?

One of the most creative ones here. There are many outstanding folks here that I admire. Pretty much to long to list.

(having troubles to day) go here and check it out.

Go to the archrives and just check out the consistent top ten finishers. You'll get a good idea.

Krystle, What you will find is the ones that do really poorly and the ones that do really well will get a lot of comments, the average image doesn't. I have gone through challenges and received one comment.

good luck, it is just the nature of it.

Still an embarrassing score, but at least the late night crowd of voters seem a little kinder. :)

I TOLD you I was a newbie ... what a super guideline and insight! Indeed the blueprints HAVE fallen into the hands of the enemy! Thank you, Shannon and ace for bringing my attention to it.
