The boring part.
The 'it's enought already' part.
The 'lets move on already' part.
The part where I will continue to crash a thread until all members involved just get sick of me, and decide to move on.

Oh, I think it's a lovely thing! At least, the very latest one hasn't had to be locked yet, and that just boggles my mind. I haven't seen a thread go more than a page without becoming seriously dangerous in less than a page in I don't know how long. And while I'm still in the 'new relationship' stage with this website, it just makes you guys all the more rockin'.

Edited: I know that second sentence was REALLY bad... but I don't know what to do with it without losing the spirit of the thing.
Edited again to add that I'm especially enjoying American_horse's contribution.

Or maybe the part where you learn what the 'ignore' option is for ? :)

Just so y'all know. I have beer here at the house, come drink. And all the sex you can have as well.
It's all free, but only for the next 48 hours.

It's just opening a can of worms, and not to mention the obvious....this is a site on photography. At the very least, this is an art community.
There are other sites you can forum your opinions that focus on such subjects. Youv'e got Google? Just Google your topic to find that forum.

Some people like to debate and putting their minds up against and dissecting a perceived problem or position. Others like reading the debate, otherwise, they wouldn’t be adding their occasional 2¢. Anyway, rarely are we debating to convince the opposing debater, but rather we’re debating to convince the reader of who has the better argument or to present them with ideas or ways of thinking to which they may not have been previously introduced. (Occasionally another debater’s position does change and it’s not unusual to see a person’s opinion to become more tempered or at least they drop the poorer arguments.)
As long as the debate is (relatively) civil, why be concerned? The ignore Rants Forum option is readily available in your My Preferences page.

Horse, I fear that your saddle is a little too high.
Some people enjoy "talking" about birthdays, feelings, family events, jokes and all kinds of small talk that I tend to find a little uninteresting. I prefer to "talk" about things that I think are important and interesting, if sometimes contentious. You have your own preferences.
Each of us could restrict ourselves to photography (delete "general" and "rant") but the site would be poorer for those of us who enjoy those sections of *this* site. I'll stay clear of pillow fights etc and you can steer clear of Rants.

Go down the list of non-photography related topics on this site and I wonder why religion and politics, discussed by others, in a thread you can easily ignore, causes you to behave in such a way as you have. Get over it already. |

That's true. I stopped believing in God this week, because of legalbeagle.

Freedom of speach is all good and all that, but do we really need to keep 'reflushing the toilet' over threads on God, and Government?

I was thinking about this just the other night. I'm beginning to wonder if it would be best to not allow these threads (lock as soon as spotted by SC).
Those topics do end up causing a bunch of unnecessary squabbling and bickering.
Another topic of taboo : "How to vote (DPC-wise)".
But, I dunno... it's just as easy to stay out of those threads.. or come in with some off-topic banter for fun :-)

Ken, I have crashed threads before, and so have you.
Sorry, but I only subscribe to some of the thread crashing rules that you put forth.

Fair enough, but you risk tainting the reputations of all crashers. :( There's a fine line between being funny and being obnoxious. I try to walk the line carefully lest I lose my gang jacket. ;-) |

The main focus of this site was, is, and until D&L decide differently, will be, photography, but it's also a community of people who hold a variety of opinions on a range of topics that go well beyond the technical and aesthetic issues of photography.
D&L are kind and wise enough to allow discussion of other topics in a specific area. It's your choice entirely to view and/or post in those threads. You can turn the rant off, you can ignore select threads. I don't see how anything stands in your way if you want to stick to only photography related subject matter on DPC.

Ah.... So *that's* what you were trying to do in the bible thread. I was wondering.
Nah. It doesn't work that way. |
