THIS was the picture I was going to enter into the Centered Composition II challenge before I found out that I couldn't enter both that AND the Fences challenge. Since it's my first attempt at doing anything of the sort, I would really appreciate a little critique on it. Both on the composition, etc. as a whole and as a centered thing (mostly because it doesn't LOOK centered to me, but I created guidelines and checked them several times).

Sorry no thumbnail... and thanks in advance!

Hi I must admit I'm not a fan of selective desaturation, but at least you have done a good job of it. I feel like we are looking down on it and it could have been improved with a more upward angle. also the background blends rather too much for me in to the headstone, so perhaps a shorter DOF? But perhaps less of a desaturation would have done that.

DonĂ¢€™t forget its just one opinion :)

Congrats on you Fences finish

Maybe it's just me, but i would have a hard time seeing that photo as a centered composition.

Thanks so much! And it's definately a downward-looking shot... the stone is only about a foot tall and I wasn't going to get down on my belly (it had just rained and the mud was terrible). But I agree, a more straight or even upward looking shot could have been very dramatic!

Thank you for your comments regarding the desaturation... it was my first attempt at it and some days I love it and some days I just think it's tacky. GLAD I didn't enter it, though!

Thank you for your comment. I really agree with you, but I know the stone is center-center and the flowers are centered horizontally, but it realy doesn't SEEM centered and I don't understand why. Would you mind expanding on your comment?

I think you did a nice job with the textures of the grasses around the headstone. I agree with others that the image does not quite seem centered. Since you have highlighted the flowers with color and it is in the lower portion of the photo, it does not feel completely centered.

just my $0.02
