My wife got me a Fuji S9000 for Christmas. This is the first night shot I have taken with full manual controls. Please be honest and let me know how it looks and what settings I could have changed. This picture was taken off of my back porch.

When you click on the thumbnail icon you don't have to put the full address to the image, just the #. The # in your case is 448357

You just need the 6-digit number, not the "img id" stuff...

R.

The "thumb" tags were correct

Remove the "Image_ID=" part.

Also, instead of posting your trials you can hit the "Preview" button below the text box when you make a post. It will show you if you're images are showing up properly without actually making a post. Then once you're happy with how your post looks you can hit the "Post" button.

This image is taken at ISO1600 is there to much noise. I am new so how much work do I have left.

Thanks Rupypug

My view of the photo is this. First its a little dark. That makes noise worse. Mount that camera on a tripod, use lower ISO and longer exposure to get the correct look that you want. The only time you really want to bump ISO up is when you HAVE to keep the shutter speed up. Your going to get a much cleaner shot be able to get the exposure that you want. The shot isnt too bad however there is alot of noise in it. Maybe try running it through neat image and see if it will clean it up some, then add some smart sharpen, or unsharp mask depending on your software. Good luck with that new camera and keep shooting its the only way to learn what works and what doesnt with a new camera. Each will have its own faults and strong points find them and make the best of it.

Thanks Matt, I will try that. How low should I set my ISO. Should I start at 800 or go for 400. What shutter speed would you use.

Thanks Rupypug

For starters set your ISO as low as it will go! you can bump it up if lighting requires, I usually shoot a handful of shots when I do night photos or anything like what you have posted here.
in each photo I will add a few more seconds to the exposure. I will start off with 5 seconds and work my way from there, between 15-20 seconds is what I would prob use if I were to shoot the photo you are showing here along with ISO set between 100 - 320,

If you plan to do alot of night time shots you might want to purchase a faster lens. I just picked up a 50mm 1.8 for $110 Or you can go a little faster for around $320 and get a 50mm 1.4 However I can not see a major difference in quality of photos between the two lenses at least in the Nikon versions. Not sure whats available to the Fuji Line.

Thats a pretty heafty upgrade you have made. You have alot more options available now Hope you got some extra cash laying around. lol

Hope this was helpful, enjoy your new toy.
