On my pentax DL I have a option to set image tone to bright (default setting) or natural.

I don't really understand what this setting is doing.

If I have the camera setting on RAW it should not be doing anything, right?

If I have it shooting in .jpg and have it set to image tone/bright is it just setting the saturation and contrast levels higher?

When shooting RAW the contrast, saturation etc settings are saved along with the RAW data but obviously not applied.

When shooting jpgs, bright mode runs higher levels of sat, contrast and sharpening on your images.

Bright mode for punchy P&S style jpegs and natural for more film like results.
