James, well maybe I'm new here :) Coz the forums recently mushroomed lots of "rule change" topics and they are hot! I thought we are going to overthrow the government or something here, LOL

That's one (slanted) way of putting it. Another (equally slanted) version would be that some people want to change what has worked here very well so far.

anyone who has not been here since the beginning doesn't realize that this site has always continued to evolve to get better and better. it has not stayed still, and could continue to improve.
dont you allow that some people have good ideas for things that may be beneficial, even if they are things which you personally do not extensive experience with? isnt that the basis of learning? being open to new things that can improve one? :)

Change is good for some people and not for others. Many people are content with the status quo and some like new ideas. I happen to be one of the latter... |

i agree, some change is good, some change is bad, and some change is neutral, why don't we develop a site mission statement, and develop (or not) rules based on the mission statement.

I love how the most common reason given, that people come to DPC, is to learn. Yet when given an opputunity to learn a new technique, people want to shut it down. I dont really see how a tool that can be used by everyone, or at least accesible to everyone ( free software ) is going to hurt anyone. First off, if you want to talk about a level playing feild here at DPC, there is none. We all have different cameras that have have different capabilities. If you dont know how to use your camera or software, then it really doesnt matter at all. To get involved, you have to know something. You have to want to learn and take the initiative to better yourself. Ive seen many people go out of their way here to help and answer any questions or comments. Rule changes are just growth. If your happy with just point and shoot techniques, then thats fine, but if you want to move on and get better, you will have to take it to another level. Learn as much as you can, take advantage of the people here on this site and get their help. Alot of photographers in the real world ( money making ) dont like to share techniques and tips. Why should they help you, you migth be taking money out of their pocket one day. I hate to see the exchange of techinques, and info get lossed here because people feel rule changes are only for the few. They benefit everyone, you just may not know it yet. :)

Change, in itself, is not all bad, and that is coming from someone who would be perfectly content if everything in my life would stay status quo. I have been at this site for well over a year now, and this is something that has been discussed several times. This just happens to be the most in depth discussion so far.
Also, in one of the other threads, the D/B issue one, I believe, someone stated that this site was probably a commercial success for Drew and Langdon. If you said that, and you are reading this, don't count on it. For many months, this site was operated out of thier own pockets by the goodness in their hearts. I imagine they are just now starting to recoup some of their losses.
