Hey just an idea - could we get an icon beside the comments to show if they came from a voter and photographer ? Maybe a little camera icon or a little voters tick/ cross icon ?
I've noticed the comments I get from each group are quite diverse...

I realize that this is the unique case here, and I actually addressed it in my original post. Vote like it isn't fake -- and use the recommend for disqualification link to suggest your concerns over the photograph's validity... let us sort it out.
OKAY, here's a suggestion. if there's an issue that needs to be dealt with, the one above, the photog can message the admins. They can then post 'News Alert!' messages on the front page that say things like 'The pic titled 'The dog ate my hamster' is NOT fake, repeat NOT fake.'
If there is enough concern over a picture, we might post something about it in the forums. We almost did it this week for the "Got Toast?" picture. We'll keep that as an option.

I like anonymity in the general forums and on the voting site but could care less if I knew who every photo belonged to after I voted. I would never change my vote based on who the photographer was, what they said to me or even bribes (but we can test the money bribe part:-)
I like some of the styles here more than others but that is no gaurantee I will like their next entry. |

Hey let's not get too carried away with the anonymous thing. I for one like knowing who I am commenting to in the forums. |

What I was referring to is that I agree that photo contributors should remain anonymous to the voter during the initial vote but after I get a chance to make up my mind I will not be swayed by knowing who I voted on immediately after.
I am not suggesting we keep photographers anonymous after the voting at all. Just saying that as long as when I first pull the photo up for my first swing at a vote I don't see any information but after I press my first submit I don't mind seeing all the information even if I can modify my vote.
Anyways, I like the format just fine as it is...as a matter of fact..this is one of the best photo participation sites I have run across. Combining this site with the DP review site is the best one-two combiniation for amatuer digital photgraphers on the net!!

Not to be a naysayer, but I really enjoyed getting responses to comments I've made on people's photos, have replied to many requests for more information after a comment, and gotten to hear many alternate takes on what I've said. Now I have one less motivation to vote on everything in a timely fashion. :) |

I agree completely with this. I feel we've lost much more than we've gained.

[/i] I agree with both of you. This change seems to have taken some of the sense of community out of voting. I enjoyed responding to comments that I felt may not have been clear or even answering questions about my own comments. Now, when someone leaves a comment that I would like to respond to--by the time I am able to, I don't really care anymore because it is already past, and I am concentrating on the new! After reading back through the thread, I feel like perhaps one reason this started was because people didn't wan't to be guilted into changing votes? So don't! You shouldn't. Like, if you show me a picture of a still rock for the motion challenge and call it "earth's rotation in real time", and I don't get it, so what? I just don't think like you. But I wouldn't change my vote. I guess I just feel like this new way just seems to make things more detached and impersonal, whereas before I felt like people were really starting to get to know each other. Sigh.

I wish I'd chimed in earlier. I feel that making comments anonymous will only drive more conversation about the current challenge back into the forums. This was one if not the biggest reason that being able to directly reply to comments was originally added to this site. To allow a little private communication and prevent a more spectacular debate in the forums over every little frustration. That and foster a direct dialogue between individual photographers and voters, and facilitate the learning process for everyone involved. And build a community, or something. :)
I miss it already.

I'm a day late, and a dollar short, but I'd like to see my comments during the voting, as well.

ditto on that...
I liked that I could check on a person's profile and judge for myself if his or her opinion was credible. Let me explain.
If I had a comment like : "this bites" or "so?", I'd check on their profile, and alot of times I would see that these folks would give that same comment to everyone, or something as negative. Knowing this, I wouldn't be affected as much by those negative and unconstrutive comments. However if someone like say... *AHEM*... Mousie or Gordon (just to name a few ;-))says my photo could use a little more contrast, I will think twice about contrast the next time I work on a piece.
I never actually responded to anyone or asked anyone to explain their comment. Call me tart...
That being said, I'm sure we'll all adjust to the change!:) Keep up the good work!
(Okay Imma shut up now!)
