		| I'm looking at a used EOS Elan 7 as a film backup. Does anyone have any experience with this camera? Is it a good backup, or is there a better alternative (Rebel?) out there that will let me use most, if not all, of my lenses? I'm not looking to spend a lot of money...any ideas would be appreciated. |

I know a nature photog who uses and Elan 7 as a backup/alternative to his 20D and is very fond of it. I just got an old Elan IIe to use in conjuction with my 300D, but would have gotten an Elan 7 if I could have found an inexpensive one.

I think you'd probably be quite happy with it. From what I understand, it's a very good camera, and functions much like the 20D/30D.

Several years ago I replaced a Canon A1 with an EOS Elan 7. Was and still is a great camera body. I shot primarily E6 positive transparencies with it and was quite satisfied until the local E6 processor had a fire which shut down his business for a couple years. That is what moved me to digital but I keep the Elan and use it occasionally when digital doesn't quite make it (mostly low light stuff).

It shouldn't cost much for an Elan at this point. |

Look at the EOS 3 and a 1N. Both of those are better cameras. You can get a 1N nowdays used for about $500 and is weather tight. I love mine, there is nothing like shooting with it. I had an A2 that I liked as well. I guess it comes down to how much money you want to spend.

I had an Elan 7 and I gave it to my dad. I have a Rebel Ti now that works fine as a backup and a primary for film. All your lenses will work on it unless you have EF-S lenses.
