I usually try to break away from the traditional for my wife's presents...

Edit: forgot to mention, you can't see them in the photo but the eyes are LEDs that blink through the paper.

God!! I just laughed out loud!!! That was hilarious!!! I have got to this!!! We're always being clever with the boys gifts....I put heavy stuff inside the boxes or put rice/pennies/etc to make noise so they can't figure out what they are.

God I love this!!!

When all the kids were little, I used to spend a lot of time wrapping presents - little gifts in big boxes, wrapping several little presents, putting them in a bigger box and wrapping that, wrapping presents in real money, putting "Get out of chores free" coupons in their stockings, etc.

I would also design and print fake labels that look like cheap, crappy products or stuff I knew they didn't want and carefully glue them over the real products and watch the kids faces droop as they unwrapped them. Makes it all worth it. :) Sometimes they didn't open the package for a day or two and suddenly found out that is was what they asked for but thought they didn't get!

*sigh* I used to love Christmas...

I work in a factory of sorts, and we had a secret Santa gift exchange Friday. One of the guys in Receiving wrapped his gift on a wooden shipping pallet. It was a huge box, wrapped with shipping plastic, shipping stickers all over it, and a giant foam bow on top. It was one of those box inside box inside box deals. There was a really heavy tow chain in the box from one of the forklifts. The chain probably weighed more than the girl! After about 15 minutes of opening boxes and throwing shipping bubbles all over, she got to the last box she found a music cd she wanted.

we did the box in a box thing with my daughters ipod. There were 5 different boxes each wrapped nicely with a card that had a hint to what it was. (an obscure riddle) (each box had something different to confuse the 'shaker') a really good one for all you gift bafflers out there. A spice jar about a quarter full of broken glass pieces. That really confuses them! I super glued the lid on so they can't get into it.

with our son, we wrapped his gift really nicely and left it on the center of the kitchen table FOR A MONTH.
He is still mad at us for that one!

I wrap fake gifts for my wife. Her real gift right now is well hidden (yes UPS finally got around to getting it to me). Under the tree are 3 very small non-descript packages.

My friends tell me I am either Evil or Devious. I like to think I am clever.

MY wife and I used to take our time and wrap our kids gifts neat and clean like you would get them wrapped at the store. But now we just make sure that you can not tell whats in the package. The kids don't really care about the wrapping, providing it is not hard for them to remove.

The presents that come from Santa get wrapped a little better as the kids are expecting high quality work from the little elves.

I gave my sister a gift certificate one year. I put it in a metal tin full of dried rice. We always try to guess what the gift is so the rice made a difficult to guess sound when she shook it. It had a couple pieces of clear tape sealing the sides. You couldn't see or feel the tape so she thought the lid was just tight. So she's sitting there trying to hard to pry the lid off the tin and all of a sudden the tape gives way and the lid pops off showering her in rice. We nearly fell out of our seats laughing.

One year when we were little, we didn't have any money to get mom something for christmas. So what we did was got a huge box and put a huge pile of wadded newspaper in the bottom, then we put 'kindling' down and then we put HEAVY logs on top. In the card we wrote 'Here's something to warm your heart' and put a book of matches with it. LOL
We thought we were clever. hehehe

When I was younger (like, pre-puberty age), I unwrapped a gift from my grandmother to find a bra box! I was mortified that she would give me something like that and in front of my whole family! I quickly tucked it away before anyone else could see what I'd gotten. Later in the day, she was going over what she'd given and couldn't remember me receiving some trinkets she'd meant for me to have. Turns out that the box was just for wrapping purposes. I'd never even looked it in because I had no interest in such a dumb gift. I don't think she even meant to use the box as a joke...it was just a good size. :)

Reminds me of the year my Mom gave me a book for Christmas: "Overcoming Procrastination" - I still plan to read it someday...

last year, I got my mom a mailbox for christmas... she undid the wrapping paper and then opened the box thinking that I had just used the box to put her real gift in, and then realized that yes, I did get her a mailbox for christmas...

was a good laugh, but she did need a one, and I ended up painting some nice flowers on the side to match her house.

on a separate note, Dave's family always does the white elephant thing... so one year he got one of those bath baskets and replaced everything in it with a really neat assortment of maglights, so none of the guys wanted to pick that one, and finally one of the girls chose it and when they opened it, all the guys were pissed, haha, it was great

It's ten minutes to midnight and we've just finished playing Father Christmas...rang some sleigh bells outside the children's bedroom window as the little 'uns were falling asleep. Presents wrapped and snowy footprints have been placed, coming out of the chimney onto the hearth. Husband and I attended to the snack that had been left for Santa's refreshment: The port has been drunk (not completely because you know that Santa has to have a drink at every house and he's still got a lot of driving to do tonight), and the Christmas mince pie that was left for him, has been mostly nibbled...those important crumbs left strategically on the plate. Rudolph's carrot has been given to the Guinea Pigs and now we're off to sleep.

Merry Christmas everyone!!!!

Well...we have just opened our pressies....and Kita got me a beauty. I am sooooooooooooooo not a jewellery person...if I get jewellery I have to be able to wear it permanently...or I don't wear it. But the problem is...I keep getting jewellery for pressies. So this year, Kita went through my jewellery boxes and found a pair of diamante drop earings and put them into a ring box and wrapped it. I was soo surprised when she told me...as I never remember receiving them in the first place. Little bugga!

On a side note...I also got a pendant that Damion had made for me....a 4 carat (9.5mm across) Blue Sapphire with 5 diamonds around it. Very beautiful. Even more special as it is one of the sapphires that Damion mined.

I guess it was 8 years back, Me and my current wife (just living together back then) where just starting out. My love at first sight included 3 small colorful shadows from a previous marriage, that had a tendency to help us use up any disposable finances we had working in small town Idaho. Living in a 3 bedroom trailer we where saving for a home, at the same time dealing with all the issues a family of 5 includes. But I knew the love of my life also wanted to get married.
So on the pretence of spending the Christmas money on the children, And my love and I just limiting ourselves to $5.00 I went shopping. First to Wal-Mart for my wife̢۪s favorite candy, a box of chocolate covered cherries, next to the jewelry store for a reasonably priced engagement ring. I carefully opened the box of chocolates with a razor, replaced one of the candies with the ring, and glued it back to look normal.
Christmas day the kids where happy with the toys, I with my coffee cup, and my wife with her candy.
A little later when she opened the box, she was absolutely silent, cried, and put it on the proper finger.
