I stepped out after it stopped snowing, boots on, jacket and camera slung over my shoulder. Stepped over a couple of piles of snow to get to where it was recently plowed. Everythings ok....then BAM, I slipped and fell. Heard a BANG...uh oh, quick peek at my lens, looks ok, camera, looks fine to me...whew. Saw some kids playing..lemme snap a shot, camera on, viewfinder to eye..focus...um focus? all of a sudden heard a whirrrrrrrrrrr....OH NOOOOOOOO, WTF!!!!!!!!! I missed the fact the last section of the lens had seperated from the rest. AWWWW CHIT!!!! OK, calm down, check manual focus...wow, it works, check focal adjustment, a bit stiff, but it works. OK, lemme snap some shots then go back in and have some coffee. Snap snap snap...got to the main road...wow, what a pretty sunset (sun just ducked behind the homes), click click, ok this isnt bad...1 more...click, SNAP, camera almost fell from my hands. OH NOOOOOOO, now what!!!!!! Looked at where it was damaged ealrier...um, wheres the seperation I saw? Hmmmmm, back to auto focus, IT WORKS!!!! Focal adjust? Feels normal, not stiff anymore. WHEEEEEEEEEEW. Wait...oh no what? I still have to walk back to the apt. CRAP!!! Hold camera tight against chest, if I fall, it's gonna be on my fat butt. Steady...steady...whew, I'm home. Checked lens/camera thouroughly, whew.....I am not going back outside tonight.

Well, my station (as of now) is closed tomorrow. DIA isn't opening their runways untill 12:00. So IF any of our planes CAN land, we couldn't even start working until 2:30 or so. There goes the overtime I thought I was going to get and the people that are waiting for Xmas presents may not get them. If they do, it won't be till the weekend. I expect to work all day Saturday AND Sunday.

Please work!!! I'm expecting a Santa gift for my son. It was supposed to be here tomorrow. I'm hoping we can get it on Saturday. |

Ooh, I ordered two expensive gifts from ThinkGeek.com. They are coming by air from the east coast. I sure hope they don't have to go through Colorado to get to Utah. |

Mr Ed, did you get sugar for your coffee yet? If not, then try a little honey in it, or maybe syrup.
I am so glad that your trip outside with the two falls had a happy ending. That had to be a high pucker factor minute when your camera fell. Thanks for posting the good pics.
I miss seeing the snow, but it don't take me long to see enough. I actually got to play in fresh snow on the mountain tops in N Mex in Oct, but nothing like what your area is having.
In 1976, when Chicago was snowed under, we took an air boat up there (McNabb, anyone from there?) and caused a flap. They thought it was a ufo at night buzzing around with head lights on our hard hats shining everywhere. The local EMS people wanted to keep it. We had to tie it up at night to keep it from blowing away on the snow. It was lots of fun, but would be kinda dangerous in the mountains.

I wish the Pet Portrait challenge was still on. My dog had a blast in the snow today. It was hard to get her to come in.

Hehe, the dog pics are awesome!
I'm still waiting on one Christmas gift to arrive by mail. We'll see... And it's back to work tomorrow, my last day before vacation. I'm supposed to fly out of DIA Saturday morning. I'm a scheduled passenger so I should be okay, so long as the snow showers they're predicting don't monkey it up.

Nope, no sugar. Not gonna put honey in my coffee either, UGH. My friend walked the 1/2 mile to King Sooper, but I didn't know. I'll just grin and bear it. Looks like my lens will be ok. Since it stopped snowing, I may take a ride tomorrow and see what's around.

Mark, if it's coming FedEx air...catch me on yahoo messenger (see my profile). My station serves your area. If it's ground, I could try to help you.....let me know.
Added: Love all the dog pics. Wish I could have a dog, but I don't think it's right locking him/her in an apartment while I'm at work.

I love a good snow day! Here are some of my pictures from yesterday. Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper's office coordinated donated sleds and free hot cocoa at 4 Denver area parks. I went and joined in the fun at Ruby Hill Park, just a couple blocks from my house.

We went back to work today also. What looked like it was going to be a 3 hour day or so turned into 8.5. Cant't wait for tomorrow and looks like we're working Sunday too . I heard someone mumble something about asking for volunteers for Monday also. We were supposed to get approx. 15,000 packages each of the last 3 days...now that number gets packed into 2.

Thoughtful and good PR move by the mayor with the sled thing.
It looks like there is a bright side to the blizzard experience after all.
Hope you remembered to buy some sugar for your coffee, Mr Ed.

We drove home for Christmas today - I-70 west out of Denver. The sun was shining and the well-plowed Interstate was in great condition (much the opposite of the smaller roads - we barely got out of our neighborhood, and Golden was scrambling to remove snow from the roads).
Hope the rest of you are doing as well! (Sorry to hear your working woes, MrEd! Everyone will really appreciate your work!) |

Of the inconsistent mail service? Of our giant potholes? How about the mountain of trash that hasn't been picked up for almost two weeks? Oy.
P.S. It just started snowing about thirty seconds ago. Bleh.
