Could the SC consider adding yearly challenge averages (ie:2005-4.8901, 2006-5.3865, etc) This would make it so much easier to track your progress year to year. (for those of us who plan to stay for a while) I personally would find it very helpful to be able to jknow my progression, or regression, at a glance.
The current year would be progressive so you could have a visual on how the current challenge is going to affect your current score. (maybe make you try a little harder on the next one.
It would also be nice to see how our favorite DPC photogs progressed for the years they have been here.
2007 is right around the corner. (a good time to start)

Definately a great idea, I'd love to see this also. I've entered so many challenged they have little effect on my overall average anymore. It would be nice to have a yearly one too :) |

Exactly the reason I requested this. I notice that your top five is in the 7's, you have multiple ribbons and you have been here for the long haul. Your average is in the upper 5's and it doesn't show your actual progress or current standing. (I believe that is why everyone is here)
This can only help |

i suggested like a running 12 month average -- so you can always see what the average of your last 12 months is.
what's embarrassing is that some people (ME) will probably end up with a 12 month average that's lower than their overall. whoops. |

Then provide an option as to which average shows by default? Say if you were the bomb in the 70's you could have your disco dancing average shown instead? :P |

The most recent year would show by default. You can't pick and choose, it just gives you a better gauge of what you started with, what you have done and where you currently are.
Besides, if you are here more then a year or so, and enter on a regular basis, your average dosesn't change more then a tenth of a point a year. This may make it a bit more interesting for the more active and senior people. |

More than a Challenge site this is a learnig place.
The statistics on the progress is a great idea!!! It shoul exist a personal stats page dedicated to them. |

I'd just like to put in a balancing request for fewer, rather than more, stats. I think everyone just becomes obsessed with the numbers as an assessment of their 'ability' or 'progress', and I think that's bad.
For instance, there have been several posts over the years referring with praise to anyone with an average over 6. I was the holder of such an average for a while - if I'd been concerned to keep that I wouldn't have entered half the challenges I have done this year, and certainly wouldn't have submitted some interesting photographs which I knew the majority wouldn't like. As it is, my average has now dropped below 6 - and surely no-one is actually suggesting that I became a noticeably worse photographer one Wednesday morning at 5:00 a.m. back in August, or whenever it was?
I realise I'm just shouting in a vacuum here, but I firmly believe all the stats are a bad thing.

For sure you are not a worse photographer... You are just running in a different direction them the majorities and the stats shows that reality.
Stats are great and you can do with them what ever you like.
A PERSONAL/PRIVATE stats page is a must. |

Apparently I am definitely becoming worse. I have asked to make my account inactive, so I can start with a new account, new name, to see if not knowing my particular user name would be helpful. I think that after two years, everybody has concluded I am not worth looking at as to my portfolio, so views are down, comments are down and scores are down. Perhaps with a completely fresh start, I will either continue with the same mediocrity, or actually give myself a much needed boost to take better pictures. |
