LO-friggin-L, it *is* there. I confirmed with IrfanView. Well, I guess that settles that.

Oh SNAP! I'm afraid there have been enough "first challenge winners" later stripped that it's becoming "guilty until proven innocent". Too bad.

That's almost funny. Almost. Sometimes I hate to be disappointed.

Wow I had no idea you could still see Exif. Although I tried one of mine and it has no option for Exif in Irfanview, but of course for challenge entries I always use Save for web option which takes care of that. But yeah I checked the exif on that file and its a little out of the challenge date.

Perhaps its too bad that they are cheating to get into that position to begin with to make it seem that way.

I was amazed how easy it is to do in PI once you learn the sliders. Takes literally seconds and completely Basic legal.

PI being photo impact??? if so, mind sharing those slider settings?

Yes, PhotoImpact: Open the hue and saturation screen, there are three choices near the bottom. One is Master, one is Range and one is Colorize. Select RANGE. Under them is a bar with the various color channels with 4 sliders on it. Drag the left slider all the way to the left and off the slider. It will reappear on the right hand side. Move this next to the slider on its left. You will now see all the bar dark gray except where the four sliders are. Move the left middle slider to the left and you will see white. If you now move the two middle sliders so the white part is underneath the color you want to keep - or range of colors, then desaturate 100%, color will only be left in the color range you selected.

If you have trouble, PM me and tonight I will post some screen shots.

Wow, what a trick/feature!

yes, I love it. it is so simple and works great. Especially if you want multiple colors that are far apart, a new layer for each merged in normal mode, or always in PI, and you can have a rainbow if you want.

It works in PS also, using the color balance adjustment (but I can't remember how right now). Something about turning everything green except for the red ribbon, then desaturating the greens. It really works.

Why does this not work for all images here on DPC? It does not work on my images.

Probably depends on the editing steps used. I know, for instance, that PS "save for web" strips out all metadata.

It could still be an incorrect time setting though - it doesn't look like it was taken at 8:30 PM to me.

However, if it's correct, she took this with a camera she doesn't list in her profile, the date it would've been taken per the EXIF was when she was 14. Hmm.

And she has an average vote cast of 3.3818. Win at any cost??

WOW ... way cool ... I didn't pick a great image to start with color wise ... too many "like colors" (I'd post but it's the one in the Pet Portrait challenge right now)... can't wait to get a better image to play with ... thanks a MILLION for posting that ... I'm off to check out that thread ...

Could be. If it's January 9th and not Sept 1st it is still possible it's the right date. She's in the southern hemisphere and that would be near the longest day of the year. 8:30 PM here in the summer is still fully light.

Yes all well and good as the dates in most southern hemisphere countries are day/month/year or year/ month/day but the year in this Exif is 2004

I don't usually weigh in on this stuff anymore, but what kills me here is that she started a thread when proof was requested, basically saying "Oh, woe is me! I overwrote my original!" and culled a nice, sympathetic response, and she was apparently flat-out lying... I HATE that kind of stuff with a passion. It leaves me with a horrible taste in my mouth :-(

I was just about to say that... the only thing that was making me think it was legal, is that I tought no one would wanted to atract so much attention for a entry that was illegal... Aparently I was wrong.. She not only started that thread, but she started another thread (Death-results) just to complain that she was disapointed to not get a ribbon... And while the challenge was going, she posted a few times things like -I can`t believe it, my first challenge and I am doing so well-... And also... if you read the comments she left on other pictures, she was pretty aware of what is allowed and what`s not in basic editing, leaving messages as -cool, but is this basic editing?-
that just kills me..

I wonder if anyone checked out her IP address...hopefully it's not anywhere in Florida.

Did you happen to notice this number when you were poking around? :P

3.3818

I'm not saying where it came from, but a little sleuthing should fill in the blanks for you.

Remember too that it can work in reverse. Play around with the sliders and make most of the bar white and just a small color selection dark gray and you will remove only that color or range of colors.

I never like getting a bump up because of a DQ, but in the case of dishonesty, I'll happily take the bump to 10th place.
